Two of a Kind

Chapter 7

I laid in bed awake.  It was 12 am in the morning and I couldn't go to sleep.  I kept thinking about Jamie and how we had kissed just hours earlier.  Words couldn't describe how I was feeling right now.  I wondered what we were now, because best friends don't just kiss each other and say they like each other.  Does that mean...we're boyfriends?  I wasn't quite sure yet.  I would have to ask Jamie about it tomorrow.

I shifted in my bed for awhile thinking about him and various other things.  Eventually, I fell asleep.  Ring ring ring.  I heard my alarm clock going off signaling it was time for me to wake up.  Today was Saturday, but luckily my school decided to give us the day off today.  There was a fair going on down town that me and Jamie were suppose to go to later.  I looked at the clock and saw that it was 12 pm.  I usually don't get to sleep in late on Saturdays, so I took advantage of this opportunity.  Luckily, the fair wasn't suppose to start until 3 pm.  So I had some time to do my chores and get ready.

I looked back at the clock and it read 2:30 pm.  I was able to finish all my chores, take a shower, get dressed, and do my hair.  I was happy that I had made such good time considering I usually take like an hour just to do my hair.  I had just enough time to meet Jamie at his house so we could walk to the fair together.

By the time I made it to his house, he was already on his front porch waiting for me.

"Hey Sebastian!" he smiled.

"Hey Jamie!" I smiled back.

"You ready to go?" he asked as he as he checked to make sure his money was in his wallet.

"Yeah, let's go."

We chatted as we walked to the fair.  The fair was bi-annual here and was one of the biggest and most lively that came to our town.  When we got there, there were already people waiting in line to buy tickets.  Once we were able to get our tickets, we entered in through the gate to a large area.  There had to be thousands of people walking around laughing and riding the rides.

Jamie and I went around and rode on as many rides as we could.  Most of the rides we went on were roller coasters and other big rides.  However, we did do a handful of booth games.  Jamie ended up winning a giant stuffed penguin at a ring toss booth.  He was surprisingly good at ring toss.  He managed to land every single ring on the bottles.  I landed only two.  Afterwards, he gave me the penguin.  I tried to say he had won it and he should keep it, but he insisted that it was a gift for me.

Soon we got hungry and decided to get some food to eat.  I decided to get some pizza and french fries.  Jamie opted to get pizza, french fries, and a funnel cake.  We both shared the funnel cake.

We looked at the time and realized it was getting kind of late.  So we decided to go on one more ride.  Having just eaten, we didn't want to go on anything that would make us throw up.  So we got in line for the Ferris wheel, the slowest, yet still fun, ride.

When it was our turn, we got into one of the Ferris wheel cars.  After a few minutes, the Ferris wheel started spinning.  I looked at the sky and saw the sun was just beginning to set.  All of a sudden I felt something grab my hand.  It was Jamie's hand.  He was holding my hand.  I couldn't have been more excited.  The two of us sat there as we watched the sunset.

Once the ride was done, we both got off hand-in-hand.  Suddenly, the guys who had bullied me last semester showed up out of nowhere.

"Well, well, well...if it isn't the faggot oreo."  The bully and his companion started laughing.

"Hey!"  I looked to the side and saw that it was Jamie who had yelled.  "Why don't you two just buzz off!"

"What, is this suppose to be your boyfriend Sebastian?"

"Hell, yeah I'm his boyfriend!"  I couldn't believe that I just heard Jamie call me his boyfriend.  "And you better get the fuck outta here right now!"  Jamie formed fists with his hands and had this look on his face like he could just kill these guys.

"Fine!  Whatever.  Have fun making out you sicko's," the main bully backed up slightly intimidated.  He turned around and walked away.  His companion followed him.  Once they were out of sight, Jamie turned towards me.

"Hey, are you okay?" he asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine...thanks for sticking up for me."

Jamie hugged me and said, "Hey...I couldn't just let them treat my boyfriend like that."

I was happy that Jamie considered me his boyfriend after all.  I know we had kissed and held hands already, but I wasn't sure.  I guess I won't have to ask him after all.  I smiled.

"Hey, what's got you so happy all of a sudden."  Jamie was looking at me.

"Nothing.  I'm just really happy to have you here with me," I grinned.

"Me too," he replied.

After that we made our way home.  He walked with me to my house before going to his.  He insisted that he make sure I made it home safely.  He was so protective of me.  I couldn't help but think how lucky I was to have him.  Today ended up being a really, really great day.
