I shot for the first open seat I saw. The girl I sat next to had short black hair with blue highlights. She had headphones and she stared shyly out of the window. I looked around until I saw that girl I had met last night. She sat in the back of the bus with the rest of teenagers who were cussing as loud as they could. I leaned back and looked at the girl next to me. I noticed she was sketching in her notebook. She was drawing an extremely artistic, realistic jaguar. I paused my song and took my ear bud out.
"I'm Chloe." I smiled waiting for her to turn around. She never did so I sighed and began tapping my fingers on my backpack.
"I'm Mackenzie." She looked at me shyly. I sat up and smiled again.
"It's nice to meet you. Are you a freshman too?" I questioned. She nodded shyly. "That's a pretty great drawing."
She smiled softly, "it's just a sketch. but thanks." I nodded and analyzed the drawing, "Are you new here? I haven't seen you before."
"Yeah, I just moved here from Texas."
"That's cool."
"Yeah. So you like drawing? Do you have anymore cool hobbies?" I asked enthusiastically.
"Uh, I like music."
"What are some of your favorite singers?"
"Panic at the Disco."
I looked down at my backpack. Panic at the Disco isn't a Christian band. Maybe I could introduce her to some positive, Christian music.
"Do you like music?" She questioned.
"I love music!" I smiled she nodded waiting for me to tell her some of my favorite bands/singers, "I like For King and Country, NF, Lecrae, Mathew West, Moriah Peters, Hollyn, and a lot of others." I chuckled.
"Aren't most of those Christian singers?"
"Yeah, all of them are actually." I smiled softly.
"Oh." She tapped her pencil on her sketchbook and then the bus stopped. I looked out the window to see the school, all of the students in the front, students walking in and out. I stood up once the bus doors opened.
"What's your first class? Mine is science with Mrs. Lavender." I clicked my tongue. Mackenzie stood up.
"Science with Mrs. Lavender." She smiled softly.
"Great! We can walk to class together!" I said excitedly. We walked off of the bus together When I spotted the girl I had met the night before.
"Hey-uh. Chloe?" Mackenzie stopped me.
"Yeah?"
"Are you sure that you want to tell people I'm your friend? It's your first day and I'm sure you could find some popular friends and stuff." She mumbled.
"Why would I care if I'm popular or care about what others think? I'd say we're friends." I smiled softly. She half smiled back.
"Well look who it is." The tall brown hair girl I met before walked towards me leaving her friend group.
"Hey." I scratched the back of my neck nervously.
"I'm Clarice by the way." She held her hand out. I shook it.
"That's a pretty name, I'm Chloe." I smiled softly.
"We decided we'd give you a second chance."
"Second chance for what?" I began tapping my fingers nervously on my side, Mackenzie was staring at Clarice nervously.
"We're hanging out by that hill again today. Some of the girls are bringing some drinks. You wanna come?"
"Listen, I don't smoke or drink. You guys are way under age anyway. I'm not going."
