July 4th was going to be the biggest day of Breeze's summer, yet. It was going to be so big, that Breeze decided to get up early and start the decorations of the shelter on the beach herself. She would let it pass today that she was basically doing slave work for her Aunt Vanessa, but she wanted the night to be extra special for her and Gauge.
The day was cloudy and very windy. Ariella approaches her and makes note of so.
"Oh, hey, girl," Ariella greets her, "look at you. Is you aunt forcing you to do this?"
"No," Breeze laughs, "I'm doing this for myself, well mainly Gauge. I want tonight to be special for him and special for us."
"Well, the good news is, that this place is empty," Ariella tells her, "but the bad news is that it's going to stay like this all day. Maybe even some rain tonight."
"Don't say that!" Breeze orders her with a stern look on her face.
"Don't shoot the messenger," Ariella replies, "I'm just warning you because we all know how Gauge feels about the rain."
"I've thought about that," Breeze says with a sly smile, "he promised me that he'd come, no matter what. And, I think I can help him overcome his feeling about rain."
"How are you going to do that?" Ariella asks with interest.
"Easy, we're going to dance in the rain, just like his parents did before his mom was struck by lightning and died, but this time, there will be no lightning. I'll be sure of that."
"You think of everything, Breeze," Ariella compliments her, "how are things with Aunt Vanessa and Uncle B?"
"Thank God he has occupied her enough to keep her out until all hours of the night," Breeze tells her, "she's only been awful to me a few times during the day before he comes and picks her up. I think he feels bad about ruining Gauge and mine first kiss at the last party. Aunt Vanessa said he promised not to ruin this one."
"The party?" Ariella asks with confusion in her voice.
"No, any moment Gauge and I have," Breeze corrects her, "Now that he's dating my Aunt slave driver, he supposedly supports us. I guess I can forgive him for how he acted the day we were at his house."
"You're so kind,"Ariella tells her, "I brought a new dress for tonight and I got one awesome of a hookup for fireworks." As Ariella goes on and on about she was afraid of the vendor who sold her the fireworks, Breeze thought it was only fitting that she be the one to arrange the fireworks. She was going to suggest Cash help her that night so they could fall in love, like her and Gauge. She also thought Ariella should be the one to light the fireworks because she was the girl next door and her moment with her perspective man should be letting Breeze have hers with Gauge.
"Look at you girls, getting an early start," Aunt Vanessa walks under the shelter with a smile on her face, "I'm so proud of how far you've come this summer, Breeze."
"There is no way you can understand what we are doing," Breeze snaps at her, letting a streamer fall.
"And I sat a seashell on the table," Ariella points out before taking her leave. Aunt Vanessa is left looking dumbstruck.
That night . . .
Aunt Vanessa greets Uncle B and Gauge as they arrive at the 4th of July party under the shelter on the beach. Time after Time plays as there is barely anyone there, aside from the three of them and Cash and Ariella. The wind blows harder and the night is particularly dark from all of the clouds.
"I'm so glad the two of you could make it," Aunt Vanessa greets them and then kisses Uncle B on the cheek, "I'm especially happy to see, you, Gauge and I know someone else who will be too!"
