Chapter 16
When feeling froggy, why not jump right? At least that was what I was thinking the moment that I took flight, determined to take a large bite out of Gloria’s ivory flesh. This time she went too far. This time I was going to teach her a lesson or two in humility that she wouldn‘t soon forget.
Our bodies collided with a thunderous explosion in mid air. I stretched out my hands, extending my claws and going straight for her face to do the most damage. I felt the sting of her own talon like claws as she managed to grip them in the side of my neck. Locked onto each other, we both fell to the ground in a tangled heap, tumbling over and over across the room.
I twisted my side in order to steady myself for a better grip when I was suddenly roughly ripped away from her. I let out an angry hiss in reaction, wanting nothing more than to tear into her some more when a set of very capable masculine hands held me chained to a sturdy chest.
“Leah,” the voice called my name, “Stop this now!”
I was so enraged that I could barely comprehend that the voice speaking behind me was Jaxon. I still had this undying urge to rake my nails across that over exposed chest of hers.
“Jaxon, noo!” Gloria cried out as she was being pulled out of the room. I saw her leaving but my cat wasn’t done with her yet. I felt the slightest of lax in Jaxon’s hold when I lunged again; escaping his strong hold.
“Dammit Jaxon, I told you to hold her!” Another familiar voice spoke aloud but I was to much predator right now to recognize whom it was or even care for that matter. My cat wanted vengeance and that was all that mattered at this point.
Giving into her, I was determined to get to Gloria and press my point when she abruptly vanished from my sight and I found myself face to face with a pair of menacing yellow eyes.
Strong hands gripped my shoulders. “Call her back in Leah,” the commanding voice growled. I was breathing heavily through my distended canines; lost in those piercing yellow eyes. With each new breath, I felt my cat slink back inside me, cowering to the stronger cat that held me captive with just his stare.
“That’s good,” he urged as I felt the infernal rage surrounding me begin to dissipate. “Real good.” My claws receded as well as the canines that were protruding from my mouth. I was calm again, well as calm as I could be considering the situation when I finally realized who held me.
My father.
“Are you in control?” He asked, his eyes dimming from that glowing feline yellow.
“Yes,” I breathed out raggedly.
“Are you sure?” He asked again, searching my face for any signs that I may try to attack again.
Irritated that he had the gall to question me, I bit out, “Yes! I‘m fine. Now, will you let me go?”
Slowly he released my arms but didn’t take his eyes off of me. “You have quite a temper don’t you?” He pointed out.
Shrugging my shoulders, I stepped away from him. I could feel Jaxon’s presence behind me and something inside urging me to go to him.
I hated this. I hated not having any control over myself, my emotions. It was madness. Pure madness and the thing of it was; I couldn’t do a thing about it.
Pushing away the desire to run to Jaxon, I strode over to the window, pulling the curtain aside so that I could peer out into the night. “If your life was as screwed up as mine; you would have a temper to,” I remarked, not looking at the male that I had not so long ago learned was my father.
