Chapter 6
Jaxon pulled up to the school and parked in his usual place. I sat hunched down in the seat, my eyes glued to the passenger window, not daring to look over at his smug looking mug.I so did not want to be here but it wasn’t like I had much of a choice, was it?
I was pouting and he knew it. After sitting in the car for several long seconds, Jaxon laughed breaking up the strange quietness surrounding us.
I didn’t have to look at him to know why he laughed. He laughed because he had gotten what he wanted, me in his car.
All I wanted to do was go back home, crawl back into my bed, pull the covers over my head and go back to sleep. Maybe then I would wake up tomorrow and all of this would be a bad dream, a very…. very bad dream.
Yeah right, should I ever be so lucky. Not likely.
“Kitten.”
I closed my eyes at the sound of his voice calling my name. His smooth baritone sound running over me like creamy silk, causing me to shudder slightly.
Angry at my own traitorous body's reaction, I clenched my back teeth in frustration. I still refused to spare him a measly glance. Instead, I reached down in the floor board, grabbed my book bag and went to open the door.
Space, I needed lots and lots of space away from a much too tempting jaguar.
“Oh no you don’t,” Jaxon stated, gently grabbing my arm and pulling me backwards. He held me to my seat even as I pushed open the door.
“Come on Jaxon,” I pleaded, spotting the crowd coming towards his car. “Just let me go to class, please.” I really did not want to be around when all of them being the “It” crowd arrived. I would much rather be inside the school, away from it all, just like always.
Following my gaze, he glanced out the front wind shield, seeing what or rather whom I was looking at and chuckled. “Perfect timing,” he muttered and reached for my hand, interlocking our fingers together, “Time to meet the tribe.”
I blanched, seeing Luca right in the center of the group coming towards us, his eyes narrowed solely on me.
Trying desperately to pull my hand from his I turned around and looked at Jaxon for the first time since he had slid into the car. “I don’t want to,” I told him stubbornly, shaking my head back and forth in the process.
Jaxon frowned as he searched my face. “You’re afraid again aren’t you?” He asked with nothing but concern rimming his face.
I tried to advert my gaze, not wanting him to see the truth in my eyes. Looking down at my lap, I mumbled a quiet, “No.”
Inside I was mentally screaming, YES.
I could feel the weight of his stare still on me and had to work hard to keep the color out of my cheeks. I felt like he was scrutinizing me and it made me feel even more uncomfortable than I already was.
All I wanted to do when I woke up this morning was to get up, go to school and come back home like any other normal day. No complications, no hassles, just an ordinary day.
Was that really to much to ask for?
Slowly exhaling a deep breath, I felt his strong hand gently cup my cheek and pull my face up so that I was forced to look at him. “Leah, you are with me and you are my mate. There is nothing to be afraid of. I will always protect you.”
