Hiroko Katsuki stood patiently near the door, awaiting her son that she hasn't seen in almost three years. Sure he'd been away for five years last time he left home, but she misses him all the same. How old was he now? Twenty-five? Yes, and that makes Viktor twenty-eight. She's remembered Viktor too, has a late birthday. Hiroko blinks, suddenly remembering something. She rushes to the kitchen, throws open the refrigerator door, and sighs. The three different kinds of piroshki sat untouched inside. Apricot, cherry, and apple piroshki buns, all baked to perfection for tomorrow. She had gotten the recipe from Yuri Plisetsky's grandfather, Nicolai. Hiroko beans and closes the fridge door, twirling out of the kitchen. Boy, what she'd give to be nineteen again. She'd closed Yu-topia Katsuki for today for Yuuri's homecoming. He and his companions could have the onsen to themselves. She sits at a table facing the door and thinks about Yuuri and her son-in-law. Is Yurio "like them"? She doesn't know him very well.. She'd never been shy or scared to tell people that yes, her son is indeed gay. Frankly, she enjoys Viktor's company and is glad Yuuri said yes to him rather than someone else. Mari feels the same way from what Hiroko knew. Yuuri has told them about his engagement to Viktor right before he left to move to Moscow. They were invited to the wedding almost a year later. Of course they went; you can't just not go to your son's wedding! Hiroko feels a tap on her shoulder. She turns to see her Mari, her daughter, standing there.
"Mama, Otōto just texted me."
Hiroko smiles, crows feet forming at the corners of her eyes.
"Oh? And what did he say?"
Mari looks down at her phone, scrolls, then looks back up.
"He's just explaining that Yurio's in love with their friend Otabek Altin, and Otabek is going to propose to Yurio sometime tomorrow."
They both hear distant grumbling; something about gays and bad influences. Hiroko rolls her eyes and shouts,
"Oh hush, Toshiya! You know you love your son-in-law!"
Mari smiles and pulls a cigarette from a pack in her pocket.
"Oh, and they won't be here for a bit. It's a two hour car ride to get here from Kitakyushu."
Hiroko slowly turns to face the door.
"I'll wait."
She smiles as she checks her watch.
"Make that one."
