Two weeks. Two weeks Danielle spent at Emilia's house and enjoyed it. Emilia was really kind, and was cheerful too. Danielle had discovered her favorite bands, which were Paramore, Evanescence, and Three Doors Down. Her favorite movies were Romeo + Juliet, Tuck Everlasting, and lastly, Letters to Juliet. Danielle enjoyed Emilia's company a lot, and Emilia treated her like her own daughter. They colored together, and watched movies together. They even cooked, baked, and did so many other things together. And talked about their crushes and other things with each other...
"So who is he?" Danielle asked curiously, as she sat quietly on the bar-stool in the kitchen. Emilia was making dinner at the moment. Emilia had a date tonight, with some guy whom Emilia hadn't told Danielle about yet, that's why she was asking.
"His name is Alec. He's a business owner. He runs the Crystal Cafe." Emilia said, flipping the french toast over on the grill before turning and stalking to sit across from Danielle.
"More! Is he cute? What color eyes does he have? Hair?" Danielle asked excitedly.
"I think he's cute. Brown eyes and hair." Emilia said. Both Danielle and Emilia giggled at their antics. The door bell rang and Emilia glanced at Danielle.
"Okay. We're going out for a coffee, that's all. We'll only be thirty minutes. Make sure you're in bed in ten." Emilia said, quickly finishing the french toast and putting it on a plate before passing it to Danielle. Danielle nodded happily before digging in. Emilia smiled before walking out of the kitchen and gathering her keys, jacket, and money before leaving. Danielle hoped it would go well...
They had been gone for about fifteen minutes when Danielle heard Emilia's car pull up in the driveway. Danielle smiled lightly to herself as she laid there in bed waiting for them to come in. She was going to have to act asleep but she could do that right? She heard the front door open and listened closely as the door shut.
"Thanks for the coffee, Alec. It was nice." Emilia said.
"It was no problem, really." He said. Oh wow. He had such a sweet voice that had cute written all over it. It was really mellifluous. Danielle heard Emilia's heels meet the ground and knew she had turned from him, as she knew the sound of heels meeting linoleum.
"Hey Emilia." Alec said suddenly.
"Yeah?" Emilia asked, the click of the heels turning the direction filling the room. Then the worst sound Danielle could hear.
Click.
And then, the loud ring of a gunshot. Danielle's eyes widened in shock. Emilia! Danielle panicked on the inside as she heard Emilia's body hit the kitchen floor and the gun click again.
"Horatio shouldn't have picked you." He said.
*Emilia POV* (I so sorry for the POV change)
The surprise was no match for the pain as I coughed lightly, blood filling my lungs. My left hand was pressed to my shoulder where the bullet had entered.
"Horatio shouldn't have picked you." He said, clicking the gun before leaving me there to die as he headed to Danielle's room. As the blood trickled down my chin, I struggled to muster enough strength to pull out my cell phone but managed it. I quickly hit one which was Horatio's number(I had him on speed-dial for emergencies). As I heard him pick up, I coughed again, applying more pressure to the gunshot wound in my shoulder.
"Horatio, I-I'm hit. Danielle. Hurry." I spoke with incomplete sentences.
"I'm on my way. Emilia, apply-" He began, as I heard the Hummer door shut twice, meaning he had a passenger.
"Pressure." I finished for him.
"Just hurry." I said, the phone dropping from my hand as the pain ran through my body in waves.
"Emilia, where's Danielle?" He asked but I couldn't pick up the phone to answer.
"Emilia? Emilia!" He repeated my name and I heard the Hummer pull in the driveway as I heard Alec curse. I felt myself slip into darkness as I heard Horatio kick in the door.
*Back to regular POV*
Horatio kicked the door in, panic filling him and the very second he did, he spotted Emilia on the floor, unconscious. Ryan rushed to her side and pressed two fingers to her neck.
"She's alive." Ryan said, glancing back at Horatio.
"Take care of her, Mister Wolfe." Horatio said, holding his gun up and heading into the living room.
"Hang on, Emilia." Ryan whispered, ripping the overcoat he wore and moving her hand from the wound and applying the pressure to it. The EMTs were coming along-with backup. Just a little longer..
