Prologue

The year is 2042, decades since the last War on Terrorism and when the world was at peace. After the final battles in the high wastelands of Afghanistan, the United States assumed back its position of the international superpower. Little did the world know that a different type of superpower would be introduced. Humans evolved as did technology and during the year 2023 something amazing and shocking was introduced to the world. A human was born with special powers that were classified as superpowers. They were known as superheroes and the people of earth looked up to them. Super heroes became more and more common and with them rose up the super villains. Crimes were more frequent in every country and more and more superheroes rose to stop them. 

The conflicts went back and forth between the too powers and governments all over the world began to become nervous. The world was on the brink of a war and everyone was leaning forward and holding their breaths. The final push came on May 3rd, 2024 when a Super villain named The Deceiver gathered nearly all known super villains in the world and led them in an attack against the superheroes. The following battle shook the balance of the planet earth and caused ensuing panic. The Great Conflict as it became known, lasted for nearly three years and destroyed many of the world's capitals. Never before had there been such destruction and death in any country. When the dust finally settled the superheroes were found victorious over The Deceiver and his army but it did not last like that for long. 

The presidents, chancellors, prime ministers, and dictators of the world met in the damaged United Nations building and decided that they needed to act against those with special powers to prevent the rise of villains and heroes alike. The United States and her allies made a pact that gave the military and local forces to subdue any super powered beings, villain or hero. Special prisons were built all over the world to contain the arrested heroes and villains. Some of the heroes turned themselves in thinking the situation would resolve itself soon and they would be free. Others resisted and were forced into cells by huge military forces and some went into hiding until they were dug out of their hiding holes. Eventually every super powered man, woman, or child was imprisoned and the future wasn't looking hopeful for them. 

As part of the pact and to prevent other heroes and villains from growing into their powers and standing against the government, the nations put together a system that would detect the special DNA in the supers. Every school had the system installed and every couple of months children were run through the scanners and any Supers, as they were now known, were taken away to one of the mysterious prisons and were never seen or heard from again. 

And this is where our story starts, in the town of Dewitt, Iowa, with a young adult that has no idea of the things he is about to set into motion.
