"Start!" Landon yelled, pounding the staff excessively against the mats. Ian looked warily at me from across the floor, bruises already beginning to form on his throat and cheekbone.
Cautiously he started to circle the mat, his fists held up in front of him. Good, I thought to myself. At least he had learned that much to use some defense, although it wasn't about to do much.
For the last two years I had taught and trained supers the same exact way and so far the results had been beyond exceptional. Over the years we had saved many from the prisons they were about to be hauled off to and every year we came closer to uncovering the prisons that held nearly every known super.
Every mission we went on got us closer to freeing the supers and every recruited super had to be trained to perfection.
Ian feinted up as if he was about to launch into the air but dove instead making a grab for my waist. I sidestepped him easily and slammed my elbow down on his back. Ian let out a gasp as his head slammed against the mats, bouncing painfully against the floor.
If Ian wanted to learn how to fight he needed to learn how to not hold back against the enemy, to use his powers. Ian was scrambling to his feet when I nailed him right in the jaw with a punch. He grunted and collapsed to the floor on his back. Not letting up I straddled his torso and hit him with another punch.
Ian's head snapped back at the blow and a pained groan escaped him. Three more hits and blood was pouring from his nose as he lay on the ground limp. I stood and wiped the blood from my knuckles.
"Come on, Ian, is this all you got," I jeered trying to get a reaction from him. Maybe he hadn't been as strong as I had first thought. I nudged Ian with my foot and he forced his eyes open. I knelt down near his face on one knee.
"I've just beaten you to a pulp and you hardly put up a fight. Right about now you probably hate me but I have news for you rookie, if I had been a MP or Little I would have put a bullet in your head and not have made given you so much grief," I said quietly. "If you want to survive here you fight back, no giving in especially to a MP or one of them." Ian just stared up unable to say anything. I straightened and headed for the door. Alyssa was standing near it with her hand covering her mouth.
I glanced at her and stepped out of the room trying to forget the look on her face.
