she cast a glance at me
back over her shoulder,
gum smacking in between
her perfect teeth.
she looked nothing
like the little girl i once befriended,
the one with wild curls
falling into over large eyes
and
muddy feet.
i didn't have the nerve
to tell her
that i missed that girl.
