After the most awesome night of my life, I woke up feeling terrible. Maybe it's from that midnight celebration feast I had with my team of managers. I knew I shouldn't have eaten that much.
"Ruby, get ready. Our flight leaves in two hours." Claire said.
I nodded my head and walked into the bathroom. Claire is like a second mother to me. She's still pretty young, 24 to be exact, six years older than me. But she felt like a motherly figure to me when I'm flying state to state, country to country.
As I gain more fame, the less time I get to spend with my family, in my room, and being with my thoughts. So my team of manager became my family but the feeling of home could never be forgotten. I truly miss so much of my daily life before I was a huge hit.
In the past, there was a nerdy teenager from a small town. My parents came from China. Through hard work and perseverance, they opened a Chinese restaurant to support their growing family.
My siblings and I spent half of my childhood in China with my grandparents, uncle's and aunt's family. Growing up, there were many children to play in the neighborhood. That was great innocent time. Where there's nothing weighing you down and no thoughts bothered you at night. Where you can just be yourself and no one judged you.
One by one, my siblings and I went to America. I started in first grade. That time I couldn't speak English. As the years went on, I climbed to the top of my class and gained lots of friends. High school rolled around and a producer came to our small, forgotten town. Something about me caught the producer's eyes and I was instantly picked to play a role next to some of Hollywood's biggest stars. And then bam! I was an overnight sensation.
Star Entertainment signed me right after the movie aired and threw me into this perfect world of dresses, makeup, and worst of gossips.
Sometimes I wish I walked the other way when the producer called me over. If I did that, I would still be a normal high schooler with a silly crush on a boy who's way out of my league. I would live with my family and occasionally help out at the restaurant. I wish that things turned out differently. But, those silly wishes all belong in the alternative world.
