Scarlett's POV

I sit up and rub my eyes after I wake up. When I open my eyes Sangwoo is sitting in a chair in front of me. I quickly back away into the wall, keeping my eyes on him. His head is tilted to the side as he watches me.

"Do you want out of this basement," he asks seriously.

I tilt my head to the side trying to figure him out. Is this a trick? It has to be, why would he let me out?

"Well, " he asks impatiently, "do you?"

I nod as I study him closely. He stands out of the chair and walks closer to me.

"You know the rules right? Don't cross the line, and if I'm gone and someone comes, hide," he tells me as he kneels down in front of me.

I nod slowly, studying his expression. He looks tired, exhausted even. He picks me up without another word and carries me upstairs.

He takes me to the bathroom and washes me. I didn't do anything, I would have, if I didn't see the way he looked before.

He gave me another change of clothes, picked me up, and carried me to the kitchen. He sat me on the floor with a plate of food. He sat the plate of food on the small table in front of me.

I start eating and he sits down at the kitchen table with Bum. None of us talks, I don't think anyone knows what to say.

After dinner is over Bum washes the dishes and Sangwoo goes upstairs. Sometimes I wish they knew how to sign. It'd make talking to them easier.

I crawl out of the kitchen and into the hallway, behind of the line on the floor. If I can just get to the door, I can leave. But I won't get far with my legs like this.

I sit there for a while, staring at the door until eventually I fall asleep.

Sangwoo POV

I wake up the next morning and get dressed before going downstairs. I find Scarlett asleep at the bottom of the steps just behind the line I cut on the floor.

I tilt my head to the side as I watch her. What's she thinking?

"Bum, how long has she been here," I ask as I study Scar.

"Since last night, I think," he answers shyly.

"Hmm," I nod and look down at the floor.

One more step and she would've crossed the line. I look at her confused and curious before standing up and going to the kitchen, where I told Bum to be, making us breakfast.

I hug Bum from behind, I feel his pulse skip a beat and I smirk from behind him, before slowly stepping away and sit at the kitchen table.

It seems like a simple, kind, gesture. But the truth is, I've been playing mind games with Bum. I tease him, act friendly, but when the time comes, I'm a monster. When he makes a mistake I don't yell, I don't hit him. But one day, I will. Because I used to.

I'm not sure what to do with Scar, I'm confused about her. Do I play mind games with her, or just watch?

She wakes up and I smirk, "Wake-y wake-y sleepy head!"

Scarlett's POV

I look at Sangwoo groggy and confused. Since I'd just woken up it took me a second to adjust to everything.

I crawl into the kitchen and sit at my usual eating spot. I stare down at the ground avoiding Sangwoo's gaze.

"So, Scar," Sangwoo starts off and I look up at him, "how long do you think it'll take for you to start speaking?"

I freeze at the question. Speak? He wants me to speak? I CAN'T!! Mom told me, that if I ever spoke again, something bad would happen.

I shrug, hoping that'll be the end of the conversation, but boy was I wrong.
