This story requires some introduction, my name is Ember, and I'm a werewolf. I have a pack, a small one compared to other packs. I'm our Alpha, and my pack means everything to me. I would die if it meant they would all be safe. Our Beta is named Justin, and he is very smart. His job is to protect the weak, and make sure we all don't die. Then there's Robin, our omega. She's our weakest, but we won't let anything happen to her.
We live in a treehouse in the forest. Packs of werewolves are meant to fight every other pack for pack dominance. However, since we have a small pack, we hide. If we were to battle another pack, we surely would die. We've been hiding like this for years, with no disturbance, but that could change at any time so we must keep our guard up.
"I'm going to go hunting," I say, exiting the door, carrying several sharp wooden spears. Since we aren't one of the packs that eat our enemies, and we're far from civilization, we hunt in the woods. We hunt things like wild pigs and gather berries. We live a very calm life. I spot the bush that I get berries from the most often, so it must be safe. I pull my bag off my shoulder, and begin to pick berries off the bush and drop them into the bag. Suddenly I hear a sound, and begin to identify voices.
My werewolf ears help me hear things much better, and I hear someone say, "What is that?" It doesn't sound like Justin or Robin, and that puts me on nerve. I swerve through trees and bushes, hiding behind each one. I peer out from one bush, and see two mefwas standing underneath our tree house. Mefwas are cat people, and they are like us in many ways, there's also Mavericks, who are people with wings, and mermaids and mermen, which haven't been seen for generations. We've been at war with each other, and there's never been peace.
The mefwas aren't doing anything, but that's likely to change quickly. With the accuracy of a hawk, I throw my spear. It plunges into the male one, and he quickly collapses. The female looks shocked, and frozen in fear. I run up and grab her by the collar of her shirt and shout "Don't come back!" She turns and begins to run, stumbling a few times.
I see Robin sticking her head out the window, her red braid falling over her shoulder. "Who was that?" she says. "I don't know, but now they know where we are," I utter, swaying my head to the side. I climb back up the ladder, and see the windows are covered, and Justin attempting to keep Robin from the windows. "We should be clear," I say, stepping a foot into the treehouse. "We aren't safe, she'll tell everyone in town!" Justin says, in a sharp tone.
Robin looks up and says, "Who were they?" Looking at me with wide eyes. I mean, how could you deny that face? "Mefwas," I say, looking Justin in the eyes. "How many were there? We closed up the house before they could see us." Justin asked, he always wants to know everything. "There were two, I let one go, but that was a big mistake," I say, looking away and regretting my mistakes.
"We have to leave this house, like all the others," I say sharply, turning my head to the side. I can tell Robin is about to cry, she does every time we move. I turn, and am surprised to see Robin beginning to pack already. We travel lightly, and leave lots behind. But if we make a simple mistake, we could be instantly killed.
Justin is sitting on the desk we have in the tree house, with a map, planning our next plan of action. I feel useless for a second, but then remember what my job is. I grab a shabby bow and a few arrows, and walk to the window. My blood runs cold when I see what's nearby. It's almost night, and I can see a yellow and orange glow rising above the horizon.
