"I have to wear a what," said Sans flatly, looking at his copy, who was currently holding two fist-sized rings in his hand.

"A 'snap-back-band'," he said, "There's a more technical name for it, but I've been asked to introduce it to you as such. It's there to make sure you don't get erased from existence in case of any timeline, quote, 'shenanigans'."

"Erased from existence?" Sans repeated. Wow, feeling real safe here. Kay- something- or- other shrugged.

"Apparently it's a possibility," he said, "I wouldn't worry about it. Actually, I think the more accurate wording if 'erased from your universe's history'. You wouldn't be deleted or anything."

Sans let out one of the loudest groans in the history of the world... the loudest internal groan. It was so loud, it leaked into the real world.

"Papyrus, are you hearing this bullshit?" he said. Blue him audibly frowned.

"YES," said Papyrus, "HOW OFTEN DO YOUR... DEVICES TEND TO BREAK?"

"I have never seen an instance where an S.B.B. has been broken," Kay-whatever said.

"How often to the tend to not work," Sans said. Because damnit, he might not be brilliant, but he knew there was a difference between not working and breaking.

Other him blinked.

"Since we got the technology, we haven't had an instance of someone being erased from history, due to timeline quote, 'shenanigans'," he said. Didn't seem to be a complete answer, but seemed to be truthful.

"And these 'timeline shenanigans'?" Sans asked.

"Timeline shenanigans". It felt like he should know something about that, and maybe he did, at one point. The incredulous stare Kay fixed him reaffirmed the feeling.

"...So there's a certain soul trait," Kay began (for the love god don't go on a ramble), "That gives the one that most strongly expresses the trait the ability to rewind time, upon death. The extent of the 'reset' varies from individual wielder to wielder, the rules of the universe, decisions that the wielder made, and the intent behind it. There are typically two types of 'reset'."

Shit. The guy was going to start rambling.

"The standard one, which is, in less professional settings, called a 'continue', which leaves impressions of before the reset, and another, which brings the wielder back to whenever they first got the ability, and impressions can be left. There is a third, complete 'reset' that brings the user back when they first got the ability, much like the previous one explained, except--"

"Yeah, whatever," Sans interrupted. He wanted an answer, not a fuckin' course plan.

Kay frowned at him.

"You're going to need to know this anyway," he said, but seemed to shrug it off, "Either way, it's required to wear these if you ever go out- of universe. They also only come off inside your own universe."

First, Papyrus took one of the plane metal rings, inspected it, and put it around his wrist. It clicked on, and experimentally, Papyrus took it off again. After more scrutinizing, he deemed safe, judging by the nod to Sans.

Sans took the offered bracelet (calling them "bands" just ignored the fact that they were, in fact, technically bracelets, and that Sans was subjecting himself to wearing bracelets.). It was unexpectedly light, and there seemed to be an unlit light by the clasp. As he put it around his right wrist, he noted that his alternate self's "bracelet"'s light was lit in a soft blue.
