Noone had ever asked to come to my house since I lived with my grandparents. I didn't want any one to come to my house.
I didn't want to be harsh. "I got this thing..."
"What type of thing?"
"Um..." I had made up so many excuses for this question, but no good ones came to mind. " I am going camping...with my parents!" Seemed to work...
"It's storming tonight."
"Then how are you going to get home? My tank is almost empty." It wasn't a lie. Besides, I took the bus today.
"I have a car of my own."
"My parents don't know you yet."
"They can meet me today."
"Well, they are busy." I was giving so many excuses I was thinking he would find out I was lying.
"What type of thing?"
"I told you, camping."
"Storm."
"YOU CAN'T COME!!!" I yelled. Everyone heading to lunch stared at me. "I didn't mean...I'm sorry..."
"It's fine. I was being rude."
I ran to the best place where I could be invisible. The library. I went to the back; the seat I sat in went I saw his face. His pretty face.
No, you can't like him! He hates you now after you yelled at him. You cannot have any friends now; they will find out you have no parents. No gaurdians. No gaurdian.
I sat there for a minute waiting for lunch to end, or more like waiting to get kicked out. Then I heard heavy footsteps and the same heavy presense from before.
"Wynne, I am not mad. I am sorry I was prying you. I just wanted to hang-out. I like being with you. You are really nice."
Say no, you can't be friends. "Well, we can hang-out, just not at my house." You were supposed to say no!
He grinned, winked and ran out of the library
"Wh-Wh-What?"
I sat in shock.
I should have never meet him! Quint ditched me!
He came back 5 minutes later with a food tray in one hand and a water bottle in the other.
He placed the tray in front of me and opened the water bottle. Except he didn't drink it, he put it in front of me. "Are you going to eat?" I asked.
"No, not hungry. I don't like other's food." Q said.
"Other's? " I said before I drank the water
"By other's I mean school's. "
"Oh, well...okay." I began eating, quietly.
After 10 minutes, I had almost finished, but I wanted to ask him a question now.
"If you want to hang-out, then let's go to your place! I have to work at 5, though. We can't hang long."
He contemplated this for a minute. "What time is it supposed to start storming?"
I shrugged, "You told me about the storm, I hadn't heard anything about it until you told me."
"Be right back," He winked and dashed out of the library.
I waited. I finished my horrible PBJ, it was dry and plain. I was about to throw away my leftovers as Quint walked in.
"Hey Wynne," He said
"Hello," I said.
" Supposed to rain around 4."
"What is with you and the weather? Do you have a date with the rain?" I joked and elbowed him.
"Haha, funny. And, no. My parents don't want me out during the rain."
"Okay, sure." I teased again, and it was his turn to elbow me.
We walked to the Café and threw away the food. We joked and teased each other. Quint was nice, fun, supportive and it felt as if he knew... but he couldn't have.
Could he?
