•Alpha's are determined by their anatomy. It simply means they have a knot and are able to impregnate Omegas. It doesn't mean that they are necessary dominant, though most are, due to hormones specific to alphas (similar to testosterone). Alphas emit pheromones which affect omegas strongly, especially if they have a level of human attraction too. Alphas go through ruts every month or so. Ruts last about two days and can be very painful. During this time, Alphas will be in an almost constant state of arousal, they will be irritable and more dominant than usual, also much more possessive. Physically, rut is when an Alpha's body is most prepared to have offspring, knotting becomes far more common and the amount of ejaculate an Alpha can produce in a single rut can reach up to half a gallon. Though traditionally not common, female alphas are possible. They have normal female anatomy on the outside but no ovaries or uterus. Instead they have internal testicles and in place of a normal clitoris, they have a sheath similar to that of a wolf where the penis exits the body while aroused. The rest of the time the penis is internal and the sheath appears as a larger than normal clitoris.

•Betas do not have knots and don't produce slick, nor do they emit either Alpha or Omega pheromones, more like a mix of the two. They also don't experience heats or ruts. However, they are able to acclimate to being with either Alphas, other Betas or Omegas rather easily. Their hormones are much calmer than that of Alphas and Omegas. They tend to stabilize packs and keep the Alphas and Omegas from getting out of hand. Betas are under appreciated.

•Omegas are defined as those who are physically able to bear children. They are often submissive due to their hormones but by no means do they have to be. They produced slick when aroused to make penetration easier. During intercourses an Omegas walls will swell in order to catch an alphas knot and to keep semen from coming out. Omegas go through a heat once a year which is when they are the most able to become pregnant. Symptoms of heat are increased body temperature, increased slick production, constant arousal, increased likelihood of pregnancy (if not on birth control), extreme clinginess and increased pheromone production. Heats can be extremely painful if not treated right (period cramp kind of thing). Usually last about a week. Male Omegas, while not traditional or common, aren't unheard of. They still have testicles and a penis but they are smaller than that of alphas and Betas. They still ejaculate during orgasm but they cannot impregnate. Their rectums have an internal switch which flips from a passage for the digestive system to a passage for the reproductive systems while aroused, much like that in the penis which prevents men from peeing while aroused. Male Omegas have ovaries and a uterus.

•Mini heats and ruts (usually only a couple hours long and usually not painful although still as intense) can be triggered by the opposite rank's pheromones.

•When wolves reach physical maturity they "present" meaning they begin emitting the phenomenons if either an alpha, beta or omega. Before presenting, it's impossible to tell what rank someone will present as without examining their genitals.
