The Way

I finish my concert and walk into my changing room. I sit in front of the fan to cool me off even though there is air conditioning already in the room. I get a FaceTime call on my phone from my boyfriend, but ignore it. I'm too tired to talk.

A while later another FaceTime call comes in, but this time it's from Jared. I pick up my phone and answer. "Hey Jared" I say happily. He smiles into the camera "Hey there Ariana!" he says back. "How was the concert?" he asks.

"It was so much fun" I say lacing my voice with how I felt about the concert. "That's great! Hey, are you hungry? Do you want to get something to eat?" He asks.

I nod my head. "I'm starved" I answer back. "OK, I'll be at your house in about an hour to let you get ready" he says smiling. "Great, I'll see you then" I say before hanging up.

As soon as the call ends I lean back against my chair. How am I lucky enough to meet a guy like Jared? I mean my boyfriend, Todd, is alright, but Jared takes my breath away.

I only went out with Todd because he asked me out and I didn't have the stomach to turn him down. He's a good guy, don't get me wrong, but he's just not my type.

I stand up and walk to the front where there is a crowd of people. I'm still at the concert, and apparently my fans were waiting for me to leave. I smile at then and think how lucky I am to have all these adoring fans from doing something I love.

I sign a few things, like shirts, and even one guys stomach! I get in the car and they drive me to my house. I look at the time and realize I only have 30 minutes left. Thank God I didn't live further away from the concert. I apply a minimal amount of make-up and fix my hair.

In no time at all the door bell rings. I check myself before answering the door. I look at the time and see the Jared is 15 minutes early. I open the door to reveal Todd.

My smile falters. "Hi Todd" I say. "Hey Ariana, I have to talk to you about something" he says before pointing into my house "May I come in?" he asks. I nod my head in responce.

"Sure" I open the door more to let Todd in. He walks immediately to my living room to my couch. "Ariana, I feel like you don't, . . . how do I say this?" he asks himself "I don't think that you're interested in me anymore" he says. I just stand there and look at the man.

"I mean you don't really pay attention to me as much. You tend to ignore my calls. Is there someone else, because if there is you can tell me and I won't be hurt by it" he stops talking and waits for a response from me.

I sigh, "OK Todd. There is someone else" I answer. "I knew it. Tell me, the only reason you went out with my was out of pity, right? Or am I wrong?" he asks. My eyes widen "Why would you ask that?" I ask back.

He shrugs his shoulders "I noticed that on our first date you didn't look that interested, and you looked bored. You would smile and nod and talk, but I knew you were acting" he says looking down. I take a step closer to him.

"I'm sorry Todd. I said yes to you when you asked me out because I always accept dates, unless I just can't. I just be polite and say yes. I wasn't acting the whole time you were talking, some things were interesting, others weren't" I say.

He nods his head. "I fully understand" he starts walking out. "Todd" I say and he turns around with his eyes rimmed with tears. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to . . ." he holds up his hand to silence me "It's ok Ariana. I knew you were out of my league" he walks out without another word.

I stand there stunned. Did he just break up with me? Did I break up with him? What? My heart drops. Todd was sweet, but not boyfriend material. A minute later the door bell rings again.

I open it to reveal Jared. "Hey Jared" I say not very happily, but I'm trying. "What's wrong?" he asks me. "Me and Todd broke up. I mean I knew we weren't going to work out, and I wanted to be with you, but he was good company" I say looking down.

Jared lifts my chin so that I look at him in the eyes. "If you want we can just order take out so you don't have to go out right now" he says softly. I nod my head "If you don't mind" I say. "Why would I mind? I'd do anything for miss Ariana Grande" he smiles.

I smile back "Thanks Jared, your the best" I say and Jared pulls me into a hug. "Well, you deserve the best. Don't beat yourself up because you and Todd didn't work out. It just wasn't meant to be." he strokes my hair as he talks. A tear rolls down my face.

"Jared"

"Hmm?"

"I love you" I say noticing for the first time that I have the most amazing guy in the world. "I love you too Ariana" he says back and kisses my forehead.
