AN: I know that Gabe got turned into a statue but for the sake of this story, he hasn't yet.
Percy was late getting home. Again. Sally was visiting relatives or something in another state and wouldn't take him. That was a few months ago. It was just him, Marie, and Gabe. He cracked open the door as silently as possible, sneaking into Smelly Gabe's apartment.
"Where's my beer, freak boy?" Gabe was drunk and mad.
"I can't buy anything without money or an ID." Percy gave Gabe a look that conveyed how stupid Gabe sounded to him. A punch to the face was Percy's reward. Percy prayed that Marie had hid from Gabe today.
"I ain't giving any money to you, whelp! Go steal me a beer or something. Don't come back until you got some and some cigars or you will regret being born. Maybe even do something to your sister." Gabe went back to watching TV.
'Not like I don't already regret living,' Percy thought as he left the apartment with a bruise starting to appear.
He made his way into the shop near the rundown apartment. A teen was sitting behind the counter, looking a lot the kids from the Apollo Cabin. His name tag read: 'Pollo.' A strange name but he had known Pollo for years. If Percy didn't know better, he'd have thought it was Apollo but of course it wasn't.
"Hey, kid, what are you doing here?" The teen watched him as he went to the back and got a case of beer.
"Stepdad told me to run down and pick this up and a pack of cigars. Said he prepaid for them a few days ago or something." Percy did his best to sell the lie. Apollo simply glanced at him, noticed the bruise and sensed the lie. He also heard Percy's silent prayer.
'Please, anyone up there! I really need to get these or Gabe's gonna beat me to death or do something to Marie!'
Apollo sighed as he bagged the items, planning how to protect the young boy from abuse. He was drawing a blank on how to fulfill his duty as the protector of young men.
"Okay, kid. Next time, tell your Stepdad he needs to come in to pick his stuff up. Where'd you get the bruise?" The Sun God was distracting Percy to sneak some much needed food into the bag with some ambrosia for the cuts, bruises, and scars.
"A street fight. I lost. Thanks! I need to get going." Percy grabbed the bag and ran back to Gabe's dump. He accidentally slammed the door open as he entered. Gabe was furious and picked him up by the collar of his hoodie.
"WHAT *smack* HAVE I *punch* SAID *slam and audible crack* ABOUT SLAMMING *punch and crunch* THE DAM DOOR?!" Gabe was beyond drunk. He wasn't a happy drunk, either, and took forever to pass out. Percy was staying quiet, knowing it wasn't allowed to make noises but it wasn't good staying quiet either.
"ANSWER ME!" Gabe practically threw him onto the wall again. There was another crack.
'Was that my rib? Felt like it. Oh yeah, definitely my rib.' Percy grimaced.
"Not to, obviously." He was smacked for that answer before Gabe grabbed another beer.
"Clean up the mess in the front room. If it ain't clean enough, I know you want to play with my poker group." Gabe's eyes shined in madness and sickness. Percy paled at the thought of Gabe's friends and what they would do to him.
"Ye, Yes sir."
An hour later, Percy threw away the last beer bottle. He had the room looking as clean as possible. An arm wrapped around his waist, trapping his arms.He started to struggle as a color was tightly wrapped around his neck. He tried to scream.
*shock*
"Not clean enough. I don't want share ya though." Gabe's free hand caressed Percy's face.
"You little slut. Jus' like your mom." Gabe laughed like it was hilarious. He moved to the couch, threw Percy onto the cushions, and grabbed Percy's throat. Gabe was more sober than earlier. Percy tried to claw at the arm. Gabe slammed his hand down where the sun don't shine. Percy was shocked as he tried to scream.
"Stay here while I grab something and I'll be sure to be gentle. If you moved, your own fault on how much it'll hurt."Percy endured the torture, knowing that if he didn't Gabe would do the same to Marie, his little sister. He focused on the memories of the two of them at the beach house, playing in the ocean, baking blue cookies, and how she would smile at him even when she was really scared. She was just like him but was only three. Most people believed her to be one or two. He was barely conscious when Gabe was finished with him and threw him into his room. After the door closed, a tiny head peeked out of the closet.
"Pew, Pewcy? We safe?" Marie had bruises and cuts all over her and had never left Gabe's place, except to go to the beach house. Percy managed to take the shock collar off.
"Ye, yeah. we're safe. Only a few more days till we go away for good." Percy was taking Marie with him to Camp Half Blood, rules be damned. Gabe's voice was heard throught the walls, something about selling two kids. Percy grabbed a small backpack filled with all of their belongings and crawled out of the window minutes before Gabe and the other person entered their room. Percy held Marie close as he ran through Manhattan. He knew that monsters were closing in on him but anything was better than Gabe.
Somehow, through the rain and the blessing and protection of Artemis and Apollo and Poseidon, the two managed to get to the camp without being attacked. Percy made it past the border of the camp before he collapsed, exhausted. Marie started to scream and cry for her brother, attracting the attention of the Councilors. They approached, watching the water start to heal both Percy and the child he was still holding protectively. A trident appeared above the little child's head.
"It Bwue Day! Pewcy pwomised we safe now! Why he no wake?" The child continued to cry and try to wake Percy up till Chiron held and rocked the child.
