I was carried into base, my ears ringing. Williams, the man in charge ran up to Wheatley and I and I think he asked a question. I think Wheatley answered it.
I was rushed straight to the medical wing where Davis, the scientist, asked frantic questions and although he was right in front of me, I couldn't read his lips they were moving too fast.
And as quickly as Davis was talking, the anesthesia was in me and I was out cold.
When I woke up, I could hear again. There was music playing in the background. I sat up in the bed and looked down. My right shoulder was patched up from the bullet wound and so was my right thigh. My left arm was in a sling, presumably from the fall and my whole body was covered in scratches and bruises causing it to ache as I moved to stand up and find my teammates.
The bullet wound in my thigh did not make it an enjoyable walk, but my team knows I'm stubborn, they wouldn't have left me in the medical wing alone unless nothing I could possibly do could make my injuries worse.
When I found my team in the meeting room, they didn't seem surprised to see me; just worried. "How does it feel? Oh, you're standing, sit down. How about that hearing aids? They work fine?" Davis asked in his usual "find out if everything is okay as fast as possible" voice.
"My hearing aids are fine, if they weren't I wouldn't have any sort of clue what you were babbling on about. As for my injuries, I've had worse, they'll heal," I reassured Davis before turning to Williams. "I know one of the people who were in that car."
Williams immediately straightened up in his chair but it was Jones that spoke first. "You do? Because we got the mission done, no problem. the whole base was shut down and everyone in it was arrested. Those guys came out of no where."
The team was on a simple mission. They were to invade an old ware house we had previously determined was a base for the weapon manufacturing and marketing nearly every criminal goes to in the city. And in the city of Detroit, that's a lot of criminals. So they went to shut it down.
"He's a different kind of weapons manufacturer, he didn't make guns. He trained people to be assassins and do his dirty work. He even started to get into enhancing people. I thought he was dead, there was a fire in his base. I thought he died in it." I said, shaking my head nearly the whole time.
"What's his name?" Rivers asked, leaning in to hear every word I was saying.
"I don't know his name, I always just called him Satan."
"You always just called him Satan? You knew him personally?" Wheatley asked.
"Not personally personally. But I sure knew him, he's the one who gave me ototoxicity, he trained me, I was one of his weapons for too long." I said and they froze, jaws on the floor. The only one who wasn't shocked was Williams, but of course he wasn't shocked, he already knew. Can't blame a man for being suspicious that a 12 year old knows how to kill.
"Woah, woah, woah, woah, what?" Wheatley asked, snapping out of his shock. "He gave you ototoxicity?"
"Yeah, gave me a bunch of drugs everyday. Don't think he was aiming for hearing loss but he sure did like how freaked out I was," I said recalling only what I could handle recalling but from the faces of my teammates, they couldn't even handle these tiny details I was giving them on my past. "I suppose he wanted those weapons you were confiscating."
"Hey, I know what you're doing. You're switching the subject away from yourself," Davis called we out.
"What? No I'm not." I said but the look on everyone's face screamed that they weren't buying. "This isn't the time to talk about my past, I'm sure you all have dark pasts."
"Yeah, but not that dark," Rivers said.
"I really don't want to talk about it, I want to catch him," I said. "That is the mission after all."
"And it will be easier if we have as much information as possible. We need you to tell us everything you know about him," Williams said, peering at me from over the top of his sunglasses.
I sighed, "alright fine, you dicks."
"Just start when you first met him." Rivers prompted me to begin.
"I first met him when I was 6, I had just been kidnapped by two big beefy dudes and was brought to some large cement base, I didn't know where I was because I had a bag over my head on the drive there," I said closing my eyes to insure that I gave them all the information I could. "He came in and played the whole, we're not going to hurt you bullcrap. He told me to pick out a superhero name, I picked Black Cat because I had a black cat named Midnight that I absolutely adored. From then on out, any filed about me had my code name on them, of course, I never actually became a superhero," I chuckled at the depressing subject. "They gave me drugs, trained me to fight, shoot a gun, kill. If I messed up or didn't kill one of the men they would torture me. The last person they had me kill before they sent me out was a 4 year old girl," I said, tears starting to run down my face, I looked down hoping that they couldn't see, "her name was Anni, she was my sister. But I was too well trained, I didn't care!" I said, at this point the tears were excessive enough that I had to wipe them away. "then they sent me out, I knew I wasn't a superhero, too many people screamed when I arrived. I suppose a 8 year old girl wearing all black with red hair and guns is rather terrifying. Then when I was 10, I learned that there was another girl in the building, she was 17, her name was Windy Collins. They called her The Dragon because she was the first they successfully gave superpowers to, she could breath fire. So, 2 years later, she set the building on fire. She and everyone else died in the fire except for me because she set me away in the room they used in experiments which wouldn't burn down. I thought until today that he was dead. He's the mastermind of it all, if he's alive, the program is."
No one spoke but I didn't want them to. "He's insane and evil and the longer we wait the harder it will be to find him." And just then, the walls of the building exploded.
