The incident of last night played in kieras mind over and over. Instead of letting James find her weakness as usual after a fight, when she closed her eyes, she saw that it was a woman staring back at her wildest dream. She dreamt of the dark hair beauty nights after nights, as she whispered promised to her hear that James didn't fulfill. Kiera never had such vivid dreams without James, she knew they had a great love life, but since he wasn't part of her reality, she automatically assumed that the persona behind her dream was a woman. The feelings that those memories brought her every time she thought about them were amazingly breathtaking that she went on with her fantasies.
Being a New Orleans decent wasn't helping her regain her composure from seven heavens, her dad was Haitian American raised in Louisiana, her mother was Hispanic, and her grandparents believed in spirits and superstitions. What family she had, most of all her grandparents believed in any strange dreams. They found that the beauty of life was hidden behind it, and they urged her to interpret them as part of her heritage. To have a great, they wanted to help her control the outcome of her future, but she was too skeptical to believe in silly notions, so she ignored them. As she thought about what her grandparents thought her, she saw life through colors for the next following months.she wanted to ignore them, but the voice of her grandmother spoke in her head louder than ever, so she decided to interpret them. First, she saw white as the white angel in her dreams which had no name, with such hidden treasure behind all shed ever desired. Next, she saw blue, which was a sign of her sadness and how unhappy her life became before and with James, and finally, she saw a combination of yellow between red which symbolize her believe. As her dreams never stopped, She begins to question her beliefs, she also begins questioning her sexuality.
Day after day, she avoided James when eventually days turns into weeks, Although they weren't fighting any longer, she kept her eyes open for his dissatisfying remarks and dejected comments. She wanted to tell James about her dreams, but she was too good of a person to break his heart regardless of how he was treating her.
James was showering her with a gift and presents in the hope that she would give in, and for a few months, Kiera did. She finally thought that he'd change, she thought he changed just for her when no one else did, but that didn't stop her from reminiscing about her past. It was her darkest day, Which is why she had so much trust issues.
Kierra was the oldest of three children, and at fourteen, her world would change. Leo, her brother, was nine and sherry was seven, her brother and sister never lived with them until she was fifteen. She knew they existed because she only met them twice, although they weren't close, she should have been suspicious then, but her dad asked her to never asked questions; because she wasn't old enough to understand adult-related matters, so she never did. Even though she was the oldest, her siblings always tempted and bullied her. They talked hill behind her back to their friends and made life a living hell, she still runs to her father crying thinking that he would protect her, but he couldn't play favoritism to one child and not the others because they would turn on him.
At seventeen, she found out why her dad was so hard on her, Leo was someone else child living with them, and cherry was his only child.
As she recalled the conversation, they had years ago
"Dad, what do you mean."
Her dad couldn't hide the truth any longer, the women that she has been calling mom for years just called telling him that she was done with his secrets. She really didn't expect to find out that all those years she had been lied to, because she knew those memories that she tried her hardest to keep would crumple down in pieces.
Her mother Francesca would never call during her birthday, she wouldn't come to see her school play, and she would never visit her that much, And Instead of calling her mom like any other child would, she would call her mommy Frankie which was another thing that was wrong with their mother-daughter relationship.
She wasn't even present in her life, she never likes Kiera ever since she was a child. She would look for approval any way that she could, if it weren't from her mother, it would be from her father, but she never received the love that she needed desperately from both of them.
Kiera's mother Franchesca was never around from the beginning, it seems like she had an entirely new agenda or a wholly new family hidden away from them, but Kierra didn't know what to think because she was always at her grandparent's house. As a child, That seems to awaken her suspicion even more and question like,' if she was her mother, why did she hate her existence.'' If they were family why was she having such trouble fitting in', 'and if she was older, why wouldn't her parents made sure that her words matter over the youngest.' Those questions burned into her mind scaring her heart and her faith into adulthood.
"Am sorry."
her dad whispered sitting on the sofa in the garage asking her to the seat next to him
"You weren't supposed to find out this way."
Kierra took place next to him, recalling her conversation with Franky. She wouldn't call that often, but she called wanting to talk to Leo and only Leo. She knew this was wrong not to speak to cherry and even her, but she was used to it. All she ever did was old her tongue and do as told, but that day, Franky wanted her dad aid for her citizenship in America, and only Kierra was old enough to grant that. She lived in the Dominican Republic and spoke three languages herself, most people friend of their parents would be amazed that Kierra was like her mother, but they didn't know the truth That Kierra was nothing like her mother. Being a native of Dominican Republic, she had her citizenship first out of all the children as a sweet sixteen present because her dad wanted her to know that she was loved; with her papers, she was free to do anything that she wanted.
