Sometime in the 18th century in England…
Daniel kept on turning in his bed. He glanced at the grandfather clock in front of him. 11:30, it read. Something was wrong. He had a gut feeling that something was just not right. He didn’t trust Darcy. Darcy always seemed like the queer girl. She WAS the queer girl of town. But Olivia, she was naïve. Daniel knew her too well; they got along like water does with salt. The town was against their friendship; but they were least bothered. What was bothering Daniel was that Darcy would invite Olivia for a walk in her garden, that too at night. It was very unusual. And Olivia agreed, ignoring Daniel’s concern for her. Darcy’s family, the Abbotts, was one of the wealthiest families in town, so they had many luxuries. Daniel would go spy on Olivia and Darcy; but he reached home past his curfew and so had to stay home the night and do his sister’s chores the next day, and trying to argue with his parents would only get him more trouble. A crazy thought entered Daniel’s mind: he should go spy on them. That thought was nagging him to sneak out. So, Daniel’s brain won and he decided to sneak out. For Olivia. He inhaled deeply, grabbed his sword and jumped out of his bed. It was good that his room wasn’t on the topmost floor of their house, because that would’ve made sneaking out challenging. But, jumping from the 2nd floor was still dangerous. He carefully opened his window, prayed that he got down safely and soared out of the window. Thankfully, he reached the ground with only two bruises. But he stepped on his mother’s plants so he wasn’t that grateful then. He cursed and moved on to Darcy’s. He thought over again and again about what he was doing. It seemed like the correct thing to do, but he would have a lot of explaining to do once he got back. It was now or never. Daniel exchanged glances with some people and also saw the ‘spoilt brat’ of town, Richard. “Barrington,” he spat. Daniel ignored him and moved on. He could only hope everything was fine. He reached the Abbott mansion; it was too good to be true. His eyes scanned the area to see if he could find Olivia or Darcy. He heard Olivia and Darcy disputing loudly. He could see Darcy’s long, striking hair and Olivia’s face.
“Please, Darcy! You know I didn’t,” Olivia pleaded.
Darcy stared at her and pursed her lips. “You shouldn’t have.”
He noticed the bonfire beside them, shining brightly. “No,” Daniel thought.
Darcy’s hands pushed Olivia and she shrieked. She toppled and then fell directly into the fire. Daniel dashed towards Olivia, hoping to save her just in time.
“OLIVIA!” he yelled. Darcy’s mouth opened and she gasped when she saw Daniel running towards her. “How did Olivia’s parents allow her to roam at night? How did Darcy’s parents allow her to roam at night? It wasn’t safe! Why wasn’t anyone seeing this? Why wasn’t anyone saving Olivia?” Daniel thought. But his main focus was to save Olivia. He couldn’t let her die. She was the only one who actually understood him. “No, she wouldn’t die today”, he thought. Darcy blocked his way, her face paler than usual. “Daniel, no! You can’t save her!” Daniel pushed her and ran towards the fire. He was terrified; it felt like the end of the world. Now, it seemed impossible that Olivia would make it. Only a miracle could save her. But then again, luck wasn’t on Olivia or Daniel’s side. It was too late. Darcy had done something which she’d never be forgiven for. Not by Daniel. “Olivia! I’ll avenge you! I vow that I’ll avenge you!” he screamed, hoping somehow Olivia’s soul heard him and be relieved that she’d be given justice. A cool, icy wind blew when Daniel said those words and the night seemed surreal, just for that moment. Daniel was in shock. Darcy pulled him, but Daniel, highly frustrated, pushed hard, putting all his rage into the push. And then, he too fell into the fire. But Darcy made no attempt to save him. Darcy panicked, panted and paced; she had killed two people. And so, Daniel Barrington and Olivia Young died. Darcy escaped quickly, thinking that no one could prove she killed both of them, and no one would take revenge against her. Well, she was correct. At least for her present life.
3 centuries later, at that exact date, Eric Parker woke up, startled. He looked up in the mirror and was shocked to see that he had the exact appearance of Daniel Barrington. He was the same boy who Eric witnessed the death of in his dream. But what he only saw in his dream was the death of Daniel Barrington; he did not see Darcy Abbott, who, surprisingly, looked exactly like his ex-girlfriend, Karen Waters.
