You and Brad had been married since you were 22, people said it was too young and you would end up getting a divorce but neither of you paid any attention. You were each others best friends before dating and you knew each other inside and out, you were soulmates.
You were awoken by a loud crash. It took you a couple of minutes to realise that it was coming from the storm outside. The rain pounded down on to the windows hard, creating a loud tapping sound. The same sound must have been in your children’s rooms as minutes later there was a small knock at your bedroom door.
“Come in,” you whispered in fear of waking up your husband as it was still the early hours of the morning.
“Mummy, I’m scared.” your 3 year old daughter whispered as best as she could, sticking out her bottom lip. Her hands were grasped on to her favourite stuffed animal.
“Why are you scared baby?” You asked, sitting up slighting and brushing the hair out of her face.
“The storm is so loud.” Your 5 year old son added from the end of your bed. He was about to walk around to Brad’s side of the bed but you ushered him towards you.
“Do you want to come in and sleep with me and daddy tonight?” You asked. You knew you shouldn’t because they might not be able to get to sleep on their own but you couldn’t help it. You hated that they were scared.
They both nodded and you shuffled closer to Brad to make room for them both. As you were moving closer you felt Brad stir and eventually waken.
“What’s happening here?” Brad muttered as he saw your two kids cuddled into your side.
“They couldn’t sleep, it’s only for tonight.” You smiled, even though you were unsure if he would be able to see your face completely.
“And why am I not getting any cuddles?” Brad laughed before reaching over you and lifting up your son. He placed him down between you and him as your son cuddled into his side. He pressed a kiss to his head.
“I want cuddles from mummy and daddy too!” Your daughter sounded like she was about to start crying. You laughed slightly before moving her to the other side of you so she was between you and your son, but Brad could still cuddle her.
She reached over and pressed a kiss to his lips, which made him grin.
“Thank you,” he laughed, wiping the slobber off his face before she turned to you and did the same.
“Thank you very much,” you laughed back and tried to get her settled again.
“How about we all go back to sleep?” Brad said, turning to face you and the kids.
“I think that’s a great idea,” You yawned, feeling your eyes start to close. “Night night.”
“Night mumma, night dadda.” Your daughter mumbled as she closed her eyes and cuddled into your side.
“Night mummy, night daddy.” Your son whispered before doing the same but cuddling into Brad.
You smiled to Brad, as he smiled back at you and reached for your hand. He pressed a kiss to the top of it before closing his eyes.
