With her faded dress and worn shoes, she knew she couldn't go. She sighed and sat on the arm of the common room sofa. While everyone was at the Halloween ball, she knew that there was no way she would be able to turn up looking like this. She had forgotten that the dress she had borrowed from her grandmother was extremely old, and the enchantments had worn off, leaving the dress a dirty pale blue. The only shoes she had at hand were the ones she had worn to her aunts wedding in her first year. The shoes were worn in and plain with the jewels incrusted into them being worn down and had lost their sparkle.

The disappointed girl sighed and stood up, after thinking of no charms or spells that would work, she decided she just wouldn't attend. Her shoulders hung as she slowly walked to the stairs, unaware of the tall boy coming down late from the boy's dorms.

"Watch where you're going you filthy blood traitor!" The boy spat in disgust as the girl slammed right into him. The pure blood girl sighed in response to the boy and stepped aside to let him pass. Not caring that it was Tom Riddle, possibly the scariest boy she's ever met. Or that he had just insulted the fact she decided not to be bothered by blood status, The only thing she was concerned about in that moment was the feeling of being left out and isolated from everyone at the ball.

"Sorry." She sighed and hoped that he would drop the subject there. She did not have enough effort in her body to deal with torture from him. The boy smirked and cocked his head to the side in thought, "what's wrong little dove?" His voice was laced with false interest. "Too embarrassed to wear your filthy clothes to the ball?" The girl stood there, her legs refusing to move her away from the boy as she stared, emotionless into his eyes. She bit her lip to try and keep her emotions at bay, feeling the urge to burst into tears at any moment. She flicked her head away from him, Her eyes bored into the black and grey wall in front of her as she wished the ground would open and swallow her up.

"Oh my, she is embarrassed isn't she?" The boy circled the girl menacingly, like a predator circling its prey. The girl was afraid, she has never liked Tom, he always scared the Merlin out of her.
"Not embarrassed, just-just-"
"ashamed? Self-conscious? Spit it out." The boy said impatiently, pushing y/n until she was close to having a breakdown in the middle of the stairway. The evil grin on his face was wiped off as soon as he saw the girls face.

He felt something in the pit of his stomach, an emotion unlike anything else he had ever felt. It was an overwhelming feeling of sadness and guilt. Pity. He had never felt like this before, nobody had done this to him. Tom softened his harsh features and gave in to his emotions, stepping away from the distraught girl that has had his heart from their first year.

Tom flicked his wand up, and at the movement, the faded blue dress transformed into a beautiful blue ball gown, and her shoes looked like new. The girls mouth was agape in shock, Tom Marvolo Riddle, heir of slytherin, the most feared boy in all of Hogwarts had just stopped in his tracks to help her.

"Why did you just-"
"Help you?" He paused to think of a compelling lie.
"Because i didn't want to have to look at that awful sad face anymore, just go to the damn ball." He said, turning away and walking out of the door, leaving y/n confused and alone.

Y/n just stood there for a minute, taking in the events that had just happened. Maybe Tom wasn't so bad, maybe he wasn't heartless and cruel. Not all the time at least.

"Oh and y/n!" Tom cake strutting back through the door, standing in the entrance and looking as emotionless as usual, " Please don't mention this to anybody, Wouldn't want people to think I've gone soft." He smirked his infamous smile and left y/n alone once more.
