I walk out of the transporter and onto the bus with a little skip in my step. Since I turned eighteen yesterday, I am now legally allowed to fight in the arena. I finally won't have to sneak in like I did for the past two years. I went through a couple of jeans climbing the wired fence but it was so worth it! Feeling the rush of my powers run through my veins as I use them against my opponent, watching your opponent fall to their knees. You feel like the most powerful super of all.
I take a sip of my coffee as I watch the landscape of Pyre pass by me where the school of fire is located. There's always some kind of burning bush on this planet. The trees always look burnt but still have leaves on them and there really isn't any grass per se. I guess it used to be grass but it looks very, how do I put it, dead. As much as I love being a fire student I don't think I could ever live on Pyre. It doesn't have that many great views as the other planets. Especially Center Planet, where the Universal Government does all of their work and has all of their meetings. It's no wonder that working for the government is such a high demanding job these days.
The bus comes to a stop. My bag feels heavier than before when I pick it up. It's probably just me dreading the long school day ahead of me. As I get off the bus I see Flair waiting for me. She seems to be just as excited about the arena as I am. She stands near the doors of the school building but suddenly disappears from my sight in an instance. I drop my bag as I look for a sign of her presence. I'm in my defense position I was taught ready to flick on my fire capabilities. I scan the area ready for Flair to attack, ready for a huge flame running towards me. I feel the heat of her burning body behind me, but before I can react I am lifted into the air and hurled to the ground. I stumble to get up. I forgot about her super strength and flight for a second there. I look up to see her heading towards me for a second round. Quickly, I use my telekinesis to throw her off balance, the best part is she never can prepare for me to use my telekinesis. I am able to push her towards the ground like swatting a fly. Her flame extinguishes, as she hits the ground and I am able to get over to her and keep her on the ground for three seconds.
"Alright, alright you win Caia," She exclaims. I stand over her to give her a hand up.
"Why do you even try? You know you can't beat me Flair," I say picking up my bag, "but I will admit, I didn't see the invisibility act coming." She smiles as we walk into the school for our first class.
"Yea I just developed it over the weekend. I wasn't expecting any of my powers to develop this late since we're seniors. I guess it's better late than never am I right?"
"It'll be a great touch for fighting in the arena," I tell her. Flair stops in her tracks.
"About that, um, I don't think I'll be going."
"What, why?" I turn to look back at her, she stands there looking at the ground almost as if she's ashamed of something.
"I don't think we should go," Her voice gets quieter.
"What do you mean we shouldn't go? Everyone goes and we finally can go legally! I no longer have to be humiliated by my brother escorting me out of the arena anymore after sneaking in."
"Caia, everyone goes because you go and then they also get escorted out because they also aren't legally allowed to fight either."
"So, that's their choice," I say backing up my argument.
"Caia, you can go but I won't be joining you, I'm not legally allowed to fight yet."
"Flair, that's never stopped you before, it shouldn't stop you now." My voice starts to rise. Flair starts walking towards the classroom ignoring me.
"Or just be little goodie-two-shoes that's fine too," I yell as I turn in the opposite direction, "Tell Mr. Coal that I'm sick or something." Turning to check if she heard me I see her giving me a thumbs up in the air above the crowd of people.
