Aelin awoke to the sound of clattering and swearing. She swore violently as she yanked her covers off, mad at the noise originating from downstairs. Fleetfoot jumped up excitedly, instantly making Aelin's mood better. However, her mood went back to shit as she heard incoherent yelling. She groaned and slammed her door open, and stormed down the stairs. "What in the gods' name is going on down here?" she snapped, causing Lysandra and Aedion to whirl their heads around and face their Queen. They were covered in flour and various baking ingredients, and multiple pans were tossed onto the marble. "You couldn't keep it down?" she seethed.
"Lysandra insisted to make eggs, and I wanted pancakes. And she hit me with the frying pan," Aedion muttered, standing up. Aelin scowled at him, but sent Lysandra an amused smirk. "Do not take her side on this, Aelin!"
"She's only taking my side because she knows I'm right," Lysandra stated matter-of-factly, crossing her arms. The shifter quickly walked to Aelin's side, and stuck her tongue out at her mate. He scowled, and looked to Aelin desperately.
"Clean this up, Aedion," she ordered with a smirk on her face, and he huffed. Aelin raised an eyebrow, as if daring Aedion to challenge her. He grudgingly started to sweep the flour-covered floor as Lysandra dragged Aelin up the stairs and into her chambers. When they entered the spacious room, Aelin laid eyes upon her mate's form. He was standing in the center of the room, with his arms crossed and a serious expression written on his face. "What is it, Rowan?" she asked. Lysandra quickly excused herself as Rowan strode towards his mate.
"There's been an attack at the western border, my Queen," he stated, though he made no move to bow. The only reason that Rowan did not bow was because if he did, Aelin would burn his ass, literally. Aelin's signature smirk was replaced with a solemn frown.
"Any deaths?" she asked, and Rowan nodded his head slowly. Aelin's frown deepened as she asked for more details on the attack.
"It was a Fae attack, but these Fae were different. They fought for a man called Hybern, and these Fae had very strong powers. I've been looking for more information all morning."
"And, what did you find?"
"I couldn't find anything on them. They came through a Wyrdgate, however." Aelin swore softly under her breath, and Rowan stared at her with a blank expression.
"We need to find out what world they came from, and what they want from us," she declared. She rubbed her temples, feeling the stress of being Queen fall onto her shoulders. There hadn't been an attack on Terrasen in years, let alone a Fae ambush. She groaned as she stepped into her closet and changed into her esteemed assassin suit. The black suit still fit her perfectly as she walked up back up to Rowan. He zipped up the suit slowly, before turning his wife around. "There are certain times when being Queen is harder than it seems," she admitted, stroking her husband's cheek slightly. "Round up my court." She kissed him shortly, but with so much passion, before walking downstairs into the meeting area. She sat at the head of the table, and watched her court flow into the room.
"What has happened?" Gavriel asked, his concerned tone heard throughout the question.
"Fae had attacked our border under a new man. His name is Hybern, and he has threatened our peace. He has killed, how many is unbeknownst to us at the moment, but I have called for a list of the casualties to be made and delivered here as soon as possible," Rowan informed, causing a growl to emit from Fenrys.
"Where is the bastard?" he snarled, bolting upright from his chair. Gavriel grabbed his shoulder tightly, before whispering a couple of words into his ear. Fenrys reluctantly fell into his chair, and crossed his arms. He jutted out his bottom lip angrily, and Elide laughed at him. However, she sobered up after Gavriel sent her a warning glance.
