"How did you come here, if I may ask?" Rosalynn broke the silence first. Aelin smirked wildly, before flicking her wrist. Azriel was impressed when a dagger appeared into Aelin's hand. However, he was more than shocked when she slid the knife across her palm, drawing as much blood as she could. Rosalynn gasped when the Queen knelt on the ground, and started to make marks in pavement with her blood. In fact, the scarlet liquid was more of a paint to Aelin than anything. She made four marks in her blood, and on the fifth one, she started to chant something. Rosalynn clutched onto her mate tightly, not liking the spell emitting from the Queen. The language she spoke was rough, like she was far from fluent in it. Suddenly, the blood marks were glowing a bright blue, and Rosalynn gasped again.

When a portal stood in place of the blood marks, Aelin turned back to the shadow-singer and healer. She wasn't surprised to find the healer slightly shaken, though anyone could see the curiosity in her eyes. The shadow-singer was impressed by the Queen, and Aelin did a dramatic bow. "Let's get going. This will lead us right to the ambush site." Azriel nodded, and followed Aelin into the portal with his mate clinging to his side. She felt for her own dagger in her bra, and became relieved when she felt the cool metal through her dress. When she reached the other side of the blood marks, she felt a crisp air tug at her clothing.

The healer looked up to see many burned homes, crumbling to pieces. Little children were sitting on concrete stairs, and adults were talking in large groups. Some were crying over a pile of bodies, which wasn't that big, thank the gods. Rosalynn took a deep breath to calm her uneven breathing, and succeeded in calming herself. She could see that the Queen wasn't used to seeing her subjects in pain, as her shoulders tensed at the pile of bodies. Aelin took a deep breath before turning around to the portal and rubbing away one of the letters with her boot. Instantly, the portal disappeared.

"Two members of my court are here at the moment. Please, tour the town. Maybe you can find something that we did not," Aelin stated, dragging a hand through her hair and walking off. Rosalynn looked to Azriel, a sad expression on her delicate features. Her mouth opened to say something, but she was cut off by a young and sorrowful cry. Azriel and Rosalynn whirled around in the direction of the heart-wrenching sound to see a young, human child, clutching onto a teddy bear.

Without a second thought, Rosalynn ran to the child and knelt down beside it. "What's wrong, sweetheart?" she asked sweetly, making sure to keep her voice soft. The child took in a shaky breath, and looked to Rosalynn. The child had round, brown eyes, and straight, black hair. Her skin was fair, and freckles covered her big cheeks. Tears streamed down her beautiful face, and Rosalynn wiped them away gently.

"My mommy..she.." the young child couldn't finish her sentence as another sob escaped her lips. Instinctively, the healer pulled the child into her lap and stroked her hair. "My mommy went away forever..my daddy is so sad.." she choked out, before stuffing her head onto Rosalynn's chest. The healer never pulled her away, and simply continued to rub her back in soothing motions. Soon, the child's sobs turned into hiccups and sniffles. The young girl looked up to the healer, wiping her tears with her teddy bear's hands. "I'm sorry..for bugging you.."

"Nonsense," Rosalynn assured, "Your mommy loves you very much, do you know that?" The little girl nodded her head rapidly. "You will see your mommy one day, but you have to wait for her. Can you do that for me? For now, I want you to live with daddy, because your daddy loves you very much too." As if on queue, a young, human man appeared from the alley, his brown eyes searching for something frantically. However, when his eyes landed on Rosalynn, his entire demeanor relaxed. He ran over to the healer quickly, and picked up his daughter. He hugged the child tightly, his entire expression becoming elated. The young girl hugged back tightly, though making sure to not drop her teddy bear.
