Prologue

"Don’t leave me" he whispered through dry lips, the words sounding like sand paper dragging over flesh.

"Please Ali, don’t leave me alone" he repeated desperately, reaching out a small feeble hand.

"I won’t ever leave you" Alison said, her voice cracking as she spoke. She took his hand, her heart shattering as she felt his thin bones through pale, chalky skin. His tiny body was racked with another awful tremor, veins bulging an unnatural red. Alison gently drew his head onto her lap, her shaky fingers running through his dark unruly hair. Tears streaking a tattoo of sorrow down her cheeks. It should be me she thought, trembling like a leaf in the midst of a thunderstorm.

"I’m going to see the stars" he said, Alison had to lean down until she could feel his breath brush her ear to hear his rasping voice.

"They’re so pretty Ali, like glass broken on darkness" he continued the stars glistening in his grey eyes.

" I want to go to them" His body convulsed again.

" I don’t want it to hurt anymore" he panted in between the spasms. Crimson trickled from his mouth, flowing down his chin to mix with sweat and tears.

" I know" Alison croaked hugging him to her, leaning his head on the arch of her collarbone. Feeling his blood soak her clothes and seep into her skin.

"I can’t come with you Tom" Pain pulled her apart, tearing at her. Grating the walls of her lungs, flogging her stomach, blazing like molten fire gushing in her veins, exploding through every inch of her body.

"I love you Ali" he said, his chest almost collapsing from the effort. She broke, split in two like firewood as an axe strikes. Splintering, crumbling, dying with her baby brother.

"I love you Tom" She whispered into his feather soft hair. Alison kept on sobbing those words hopelessly, even after his slight body was still.

I will update every Saturday. I know it is a bit intense but it is essential to the story. The rest isn't so sad and dare I say funny at parts.  Also bear with me, this is my first story I've ever written besides the odd scribbles when I am bored. So if at times I'm a bit clumsy and make mistakes I do apologise. Please vote or comment if you liked it, I would love to hear your opinion. Thanks for clicking the little read button.
