"Your father was also a great man. He just didn't use his head at times. I had told him it would get him killed someday if he didn't start usin' it." PawPaw starts.
I shift in my spot on the couch, uncomfortable at his choice of words.
"Sorry." PawPaw says, clearing his throat.
Mimsy rolls her eyes.
"Your father had a lot of spare time on his hands since your mother was out on her work trips a lot. So, he decided to try to start his own company. It didn't start off so well, he had no idea what he was doing, whether he wanted to admit it or not." Mimsy laughs.
"What was his company called?" Conner asks, grabbing my hand to comfort me.
Maybe I can forgive him for what he did.
"The Foundation Foundation." PawPaw chuckles.
"Let me guess, it was TFF for short?" I question, sarcastically.
"T-Fo-Fo." Conner blurts out.
We all look over at him, in confusion.
"How do you know?" Mimsy and PawPaw ask in unison.
Conner pauses for a second, then continues.
"It was in my memory of Jess's mom that I had last night."
I give him a confused, yet surprised look.
"What happened? What'd you see? Conner spill!" I say eagerly.
"I saw your mom talking to your dad about it, and then it cut to another part where a group of men in black and grey were asking your mom what it was and why she was involved in it."
"The Street Men." PawPaw says, answering what we were all thinking, but didn't want to ask it.
"Who are they?" Conner and I ask.
"They find their victims when they're out on the streets going shopping, going to a movie, sitting in their car at-"
"A park." I whisper, cutting off PawPaw, but everyone still heard me.
"Sorry, that was in my memory of my dad last night."
I sniff again before continuing.
"So why did Conner and I both have a memory on the same night?"
Mimsy puts her chin in the palm of her hand, thinking of a response.
"I guess it's because you both didn't know what really happened and your minds just happened to remember something. I guess it was just by coincidence, sweetie." Mimsy states.
"We're sorry for hiding this from you for so long, Punkin'. We just didn't know if you were ready for the truth yet. We just wanted to protect you." PawPaw pleads, rubbing my knee.
"It's okay PawPaw, I forgive you, I would do the same thing if I were in your situation. I'm sure Conner would too." I say, glancing at Conner.
"Yes, agreed." He says, sitting up straighter.
"Thank you, for telling us." I say, standing up.
They all stand up with me, pulling me in for a big family hug. Plus Conner.
"You're very welcome, sweetie." Mimsy says.
So now I guess the question is, what did The Street Men want to do with my dad and his company?
