Lyra walked behind her family as they entered the platform , trying to distance herself as much as possible. In muggle clothing that was completely different to what anyone had ever seen her in before and a busted lip , to say people stared would be the understatement of the century .Her parents wished her brother farewell and simply nodded to her before Regulus grabbed her arm and started to lead her away towards the train. They put their trunks in the pile with everyone else's and Regulus grabbed both of their small travel bags containing their school robes. They moved to get on the train and ended up face to face with Sirius and the rest of the marauders.
James looked absolutely horrified at the state Lyra was in. Remus looked to shocked for words. Peter was just confused at what had happened to the girl . Sirius looked like he wanted to burst into tears and punch someone all at once. James was the first one to move towards Lyra , immediately Regulus's hand shot out and pulled the girl behind him. "It's fine Reggy , any harm he could have ever caused me is already done" she said quietly to her younger brother , but the rest of the boys still heard her. " You stay away from her you her me? I don't want any of you near her" Regulus snarled at the marauders
As the two Black siblings walked away and boarded the train , the three boys turned to the third who was currently staring at his shoes looking ashamed. "You have a lot of explaining to do Padfoot" James said and then turned to board the train. Once they where all settled n their compartment Sirius began to explain everything about the night he left his parents house , including the conversations with his siblings. The boys faces changed from anger , whenever Sirius described what had happened with his parents , to disgust when he talked about Lyra and Regulus. " So you just left her there? Whenever Regulus told you she wouldn't be safe" Remus was the first to spit out. Sirius nodded in shame. "Well I guess that explains her lip... and why she looked so broken" Peter said quietly.
James Potter who up until that moment had been completely silent turned to the boy he saw as his brother and said sternly " You need to fix this" It was at that moment that there compartment door shuddered open to reveal Lyra Black. For a moment they all just silently stared at the girl , who refused to take her eyes of her older brother , whose eyes no matter how hard he tried could not leave hers. Remus who had always been rather close with Lyra stood as though to hug her but she pushed him back into his seat , gently. "Mother removed your name from the family tree, she told me to tell you." She said in a tone that none of the boys recognized , it was clear to see that the girl had her defences up so high and so strong that Merlin himself could not break through.
"What happened to you Ly?" Sirius asked with concern clear in his voice. The girl's face hardened and her voice was hard and cold , " Don't you dare call me that ". It was at that moment that Regulus appeared and tried to pull his sister out of the carriage , " Wait Reggy!" she snapped. His hand retreated as hers slipped into her pocket , she pulled out a necklace with a small constellation on it. All three siblings had one to match their name , Lyra had given to them for Christmas when she was 13."You left this behind the night you left , I was going to throw it away but I couldn't bring myself to do it. In the end I decided you should have it , if you threw it away it would prove just how little you cared about us all along , and if you kept it , it would be a constant reminder of all the hurt you have caused." With that she turned and left.
The compartment was silent until Remus had to go and do prefect duties and James head boy duties. "We should be back soon" Remus said before they exited the compartment. Peter nodded but Sirius didn't even take his gaze away from the window. He was so deep in his own despair he didn't even notice two of his best friends leaving. Of course he wouldn't throw away the necklace , he hadn't even meant to leave it , but of course to Ly and Reggy it looked a bit different. He cared about them with all his heart , he really did think she would have been safe once he left , he thought his mother would not have wanted her only daughter harmed. It confused him why Walburga had allowed it to happen , not only in the sense that Lyra was her only daughter and she should want her safe , but that all his dreadful mother ever talked about to his sister was how she needed to be a perfect lady to secure a perfect pureblood husband. Clearly his sisters current state did not match that criteria.
It was not long before the two returned , they talked to Peter about who the other prefects where and how it was Lily Evans who was head girl. Something which should have excited James Potter and begun one of his rants about how perfect she was , but he could just not bring himself to care. They changed into their robes and once they train stopped at Hogsmeade they tried to get on one of the first carts to get to the feast as soon as possible. Sirius tried to look for his brother and sister on the carriages but they where not to be seen.
