A Week Later
It was another ordinary day at Forks High School, a day that Edward came back from visiting his family in Alaska. I was chatting with the Cullen's as I stood next to them, waiting for school to start. The obnoxious noise of Bella's truck could be heard clearly as she pulled into the school parking lot and I laugh quietly while shaking my head.
"What's so funny?" Rosalie asks as she looks at me with a confused gaze. I have bonded with the Cullen's this past week; Rosalie, Jasper, Elizabeth, and Emmett a little more than the others.
"It’s nothing,” I grin as I look back at Rosalie. There was a day in the past week or so where I had pulled Rosalie away from her family during lunch; wanting to ask her why she always glared at me when she didn’t know me. She looked shocked, but crossed her arms over her chest and shrugged her shoulders. I then proceeded to tell her that if she ever wanted to talk that she could always count on me to keep her secrets. A few days after she called me from Emmett’s phone and we talked for hours on end on what was troubling her. So now I guess you could say we’re good friends...maybe even best friends.
“It’s the overly loud noise of Bell’s truck,” Edward says absentmindedly as he stares in her direction.
“That’s exactly it!” I clap my hands once and look at him with a surprised yet confused look, “How’d you know?”
The Cullen’s shared a glance, probably thinking that I had missed it before Edward shrugged his shoulders and said it was just a guess. I frown slightly and nod my head before moving my head to look at the ice covered concrete beneath us.
“Evangeline!” A voice called and I looked up. Bella was waving me over with urgency and I sigh. Looking back at the Cullen’s, I gave them a small smile as I make my trek over the icy ground. Once I reach her, I pull her into a tight hug.
“Hey Bells, did the ice get you?” I ask after a I noticed the slowly fading wet patch on the side of her jeans.
“Yeah, but that’s not the reason I called you over here,” she started, speaking quickly, “Have you noticed anything different about the Cullen’s. How they don’t really act...human.”
“No I haven’t, why?” I titled my head and narrow my eyes as I look at her, “Is it because they’re unnaturally beautiful people that are sweet, kind, funny....handsome,” I trail off as I think of Emmett, a smile gracing my lips as I think of him.
“You’re thinking of Emmett now aren’t you?” she groans as she leans against her truck.
“N-no! OK maybe a little bit,” I give in after she gave me a look. Bella sighs and shakes her head as she grabs her stuff and she starts to walk off. I giggle quietly before walking back to the Cullen’s with a slight jump in my step.
“What was that about?” Emmett asked as soon as I reached them, we had decided to head to class, him walking me to mine before he left for his.
“Bella thinks that you and your family are some sort of supernatural creature or something,” I tell the truth. As I as always said, ‘It’s better to tell the truth then to find out later on that someone you loved, trusted, or cherished lied to you.’
“Really?” His voice was calm and steady though I noticed his eyes twitch as if he was nervous.
“Yup, but I told her to forget about it. Well...not really, but you know what I mean, because you’ve probably been in a situation like this before and at that other ‘fun’ stuff,” I blush as I stop myself from rambling, “Sorry, I was rambling.”
We had reached my class and we were standing outside the plain oak door. I was leaning against the locker behind me as Emmett stood in front of me, the people around us speaking quietly like the first day of school during lunch. His handsome face was graced with a smile that I couldn’t tear my gaze away from.
