Chapter 2-- The Beginning of the End

We all headed into my house, giggling like fools, but stopped short when we noticed all of our parents standing in the middle of the foyer, their faces grim and eyes red from crying. I immediately opened my mouth to ask what was the matter, but my mom held her hand up to stop me from talking.

She then pasted a fake smile on her face, and all the rest of the adults followed suit. I was rooted to the spot with fear, as was everyone else. Adam's long hair was trembling along with the rest of him, and I wanted to reach out and grab his hand, but I couldn't. I couldn't move.

The tension in the room was overwhelming. My eyes were darting around all the parents, looking for a chink in at least one of their armors, but my search was in vain. No matter how much this was paining them, they surely weren't going to let that show.

I slowly tore my eyes away from my parents and what I saw made me clamp onto Adam's had for dear life. Literally.

The room was filled with moving boxes, piled up to the cathedral ceilings. The room, once filled with exquisite and expensive furniture, was now a mess of drab brown. I almost fainted, I was so overwhelmed.

But I couldn't, because we had unconciously pressed ourselves into a tight little line, and my friends held me up when my knees felt weak. I then realized I must be squeezing the crap out of Adam's hand, and I tried to let go, but he wouldn't let go of me. His iron grip was crushing, but in a comforting sort of way. I knew in the back of my mind, that if he let go, I would've fallen apart at my mother's words.

"I know you guys are scared," She begun, voice shaking as she struggled to gain control of her emotions. "But it's not really that bad. It's just-"

She was interrupted by a choked sob. I whipped my head around, trying to find the source of the noise, until I realized it was me. My cheeks warmed, and I knew they were bright red.

My dad made a little motion to my mom. Cut to the chase. And with that, she uttered the words that would send my life into a downward spiral.

"They're-- We're," She begun, talking so low I had to strain my ears to hear. "We're sending you all to Michigan to live together..."

I let out an ear piercing shriek as Raquel's chocolate-brown eyes widened and Blake let out a gasp. Vietress started arguing, Joya crying, and Adam

pulled me against his chest into a bone-crushing hug.

It was with that, that I fainted. Everything went black, but before it did, I felt someone catch me as a dark, welcoming, warm, emptiness that felt like a heavy blanket descended over me.
