I opened my heavy eyelids, and the clock blurred out of vision. I grabbed my glasses from my nightstand and I looked at the time, 12:14. Oh no! I was supposed to meet with Devin at Starbucks around 11! I grabbed the nearest pair of sweats, and an old t-shirt. I usually wore contacts, but I felt too lazy to do any work. So I put my hair in a messy bun, and grabbed my phone. I had left my phone in the pocket of my dress, and as I reached for it, I felt…a napkin? I pulled the napkin out and there was a phone number on it. Right next to the sloppy phone number was a name- Matt. Matt? Do I know a Ma- the guy at the club! Maybe I would text him. I started walking to Starbucks in my slippers. Was I a mess or what? But why was I worrying? I shouldn’t have to impress Devin, but a part of me wanted him to like what he saw… I walked into Starbucks and sure enough, there he was in our little booth by the window. We had agreed to come to Starbucks at 11 every Saturday a couple days ago. It was our first tradition day and I ruined it by being late.
“Well look who rolled out of bed, almost un-recognizable.” He laughed.
“Oh shut up. At least I came.” I sat down in the booth and looked over the menu.
“Finally. So what is miss pretty gonna get?” he said sarcastically. I snarled at him.
“Just an iced coffee.” I already knew he was getting the black coffee. But when I reached in to my pocket for money, I got an unpleasant surprise.
“Oh come on! I forgot my money” I pouted my lips and batted my dark, long eyelashes at him, hoping he would pay for me.
“Fine fine fine. You already look bad enough, I don’t want to see your personality coffee-less.”
I let him have it just because he was paying for me. Meanwhile, Devin was getting the coffee, so I pulled out my phone and texted this Matt kid.
To Matt:
Hey, it’s that girl from the club(:
Sent 12:37pm
From Matt:
Jade? Hi!
Received 12:39pm
“Who ya’ texting there sleeping beauty?” Devin asked curiously?
“None of your business mister.” I giggled.
“Well you don’t get your coffee until you tell me!” he said in a sing-song voice.
“Fine, this guy named Matt, I met at the club. He’s nice” I smiled.
“Oh I see, but don’t you dare replace me.” He warned jokingly.
I kept a conversation with Matt, and Devin and I talked and laughed. Until trouble walked through the door…Eric.
