The patter of the rain falling on the roof of Rebecca Denbrough's house echoed as she sat in her room with her brother Bill. They were both sick with a horrible case of Influenza(courtesy of Bill who happened to get her sick). Bill, was making a boat out of a newspaper for their brother George. George was a very energetic six-year-old boy who loved his brother and sister deeply. Downstairs on the main floor, their mother was playing the piano that was found in the parlor.
Much to the twin's dismay, they had to stay home while George went out in the rain and played with the boat Bill was making, "I wish you both could come," George said sadly.
"Me too Georgie," Rebecca said her auburn hair falling on her face, she sighed and tucked her hair behind her ear.
"We'd come with you if we weren't," Billy started but was cut off by a cough," d-dying," he finished.
"You're not dying," Georgie protested.
"Yes, well at least I am. Did you not see the v-vomit coming out of my nose this morning?" Billy questioned.
"That's disgusting," Georgie said a look of disgust swept upon his face.
"Yeah, you're telling me," Rebecca commented with a shudder. Billy shot her a look as she rolled her eyes and let out a quiet laugh.
"Okay, now go get the wax," Billy said to Georgie.
"In the cellar?" Georgie asked uneasily.
"You want it to f-float don't you?"
"Uh, fine," Georgie said as he walked out of the bedroom and down the stairs.
Rebecca turned to her brother, "William," she said. Billy gave her a look, Billy hates it when people call him William, he thinks that the name is too proper.
"Rebecca," Billy said copying her action. Rebecca prefers to be called Becca, not because she doesn't like the name Rebecca she just thinks that Becca is a better fit for her personality.
"You know he hates it down there," She said
"Well, s-someone has to go and get it," Billy said, "a-and plus if mom c-caught us o-o-out of the room not just going to the b-bathroom, sh-she would have our heads,"
"Still, he grabbed his walkie-talkie, but I doubt he grabbed a flashlight, the power is out, remember?" She asked Billy as he pulled his walkie-talkie out and mumbled a quick 'hurry up' to Georgie, "You know that probably scared the shit out him, right?"
Billy ignored her as he took the S.S Georgie over to the desk and set it down where he would put the wax on the boat so it would be able to float on the water. Billy sat down and Rebecca walked over and sat next to him. Then, Georgie came bounding up the stairs and rushed over to Billy and Rebecca. Georgie sat in between them and watched as Billy coated the paper boat in wax.
"Alright," Billy said as he took the boat in his hands and turned to Georgie with a smile," there you go! S-she's already captain,"
"She?" Georgie questioned.
"You call boats she," Rebecca said to Georgie.
Georgie looked down at the boat and smiled, "She," He said, "Thanks, Billy," Georgie hugged Billy, then turned around and gave Rebecca a hug as well.
"Don't get sick, for mom's sake," Rebecca said with a smile and light chuckle.
Then, Georgie grabbed his walkie-talkie, "See you later!" He chuckled as he skipped out of the room, "Bye!"
Billy closed the package of wax and stood up so he could see Georgie put the boat in the water. Billy watched as Georgie raced out of the house and into the rain in his yellow raincoat and galoshes. Georgie turned around to the window and with a bright smile he waved to Billy, who took out his walkie-talkie, "Be careful," he said into it. With that, he watched as Georgie put the boat in the water and run down the street after it happily.
Billy turned around and noticed that his sister was no longer in the room with him, "Where did she go?" He asked himself, then he heard the sound of his sister throwing up from the other room, "Great," he mumbled to himself.
