What Love Does For Us

Zayn's P.O.V.

"Amelia Sanchez was a great person," she said. "She had a big heart, always looking on the bright side. She never stopped believing in herself and the people she loved. She--"

My eyes snap open. Oh gosh, that was only a dream. Thank God. I look around at the all-white room, the beeping sound echoing throughout the room. Harry's sleeping against Niall. I look at Mia. She has scars running across her face and arms. There's a slit in her eyebrow due to stitches and there's bruises around her cheeks.

The nurse walks in and smiles at me. "She's going to be fine, trust me. I've seen people pass from this, but Mia has this strength I've never seen."

"You know, her dad passed from the same incident," I whisper. "Maybe that's what's making her strong."

"Could be," this nurse smiles at me, replacing the water beside me and leaves quickly.

I look back at Mia and run my hand through her brown hair. She moves her head a little, one word escaping her lips. "Dad."

I look at her and her eyebrows are furrowed together, her lips pursed like she's angry. Her face relaxes quickly and her eyes twitch.

"Mia..." I whisper in her ear. She doesn't respond but her eye twitches again.

It's been two weeks since Mia took that hit for me. I sigh. "I'm a man, Mia. You should've let it hit me."

"Zayn," Mia's lips barely move at the sound of my name.

"Mia," I say again, a little more frantically. I grab the pillow that I was leaning aganist and throw it hard at where Niall and Harry rest. They get up quickly, shocked at first, but I wave them over. They trudge over slowly. Whenever Niall sees Mia in the condition she's in, he almost starts crying. "She's waking up," I whisper to them.

"Mia," Niall says to her, taking her hand in his. "Can you hear me, Mia?"

"Niall. Is that you?" She moves her chapped lips.

"She's alive!" Niall jumps up but Harry tells him to be quiet.

I take Mia's hand, "Are you all right?"

"Never felt better," she forces out. She opens her eyes slowly, one more squinted than the other due to bruises. "What happened?"

"You played hero," Harry chuckles. "Thank God you're okay."

"I'm hungry," Mia grunts, trying to sit up. I quickly help her up, letting her take her time.

"I'll get a doctor," Harry says and quickly escapes. That was probably an excuse to cry a little. I would've done the same thing.

"You broke three rib bones, your leg, and your right arm," the doctor says. "Once your released from the hospital, you'll have to get around by wheelchair. It won't be fun, but it's not permanent. I'm surprised you didn't lose a leg or anything," the doctor admits.

Mia cringes. "I'm just glad I didn't die."

Niall winces at the word. The doctor dismisses himself and he heads out.

"I spoke with my dad," Mia whispers. We all look at her. "He told me to fight. And I did."

No one says anything, but her words impact me.

She fought.

And she won.

Louis barges in with Liam and Danielle behind him. "Mia, I heard you woke up, so I went to the store and bought the biggest teddy bear I could find."

I places it down on the floor, and it reaches to his waist only sitting.

"Thanks," Mia laughs. She coughs and then smiles. "Bring 'em here."

Louis places it beside Mia in the chair and grabs its arm. "I'll name it Remy."

"Really? Remy?" Liam laughs.

"Don't judge her opinion," Danielle hits him the chest lightly. He laughs.

"Thanks, guys," Mia laughs. "I've probably lost my job and I haven't even started it."

"Don't worry about it," Niall pats her hand. We all ready talked to Phillip and he explained everything to your boss."

"Thanks," she smiles. "How long am I gonna be here again?"

"One or two weeks," I answer.

"Greaat," she scoffs. "Maybe there's a football game on."

Niall looks at her, wide-eyed, "You called it football."

"Yeah, I did," Mia smiles. "Happy?"

Niall nods rapidly with a smile. Everyone laughs at him, and it doesn't feel like were in a hospital room, but at home.

Ah, the things we do for love. Or better yet, the things love does for us.

It brought me, well, us, Mia back. I can only imagine other wonders it can do.
