I always liked Summer more than I liked Winter. I was one of those people that got cold easy and the fact that it was cold everywhere did not help. At least in Summer, I could work at my summer job as a lifeguard at the outdoor pool nearby, so I dealt with the warmth well. I sit in a chair infront of the fireplace in my house, wrapped in a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate in my hand. My mother and my little sister put up the Christmas tree as my brother gets ready to play in the snow.
"Jamie, why are you so excited to go out there in the cold? Why not sit by the fire with me?" I ask, gesturing to the chair next to me.
"I get to finally see Jack Frost! He only comes in the winter." He says. I roll my eyes. Ever since two years ago, he goes on about Jack Frost.
"Okaaaay. If you say so." I tell him. I think his belief in Jack Frost is crazy, but I won't be one of those horrible human beings to tell him otherwise. Let the poor kid have that magic in his life while he can.
"Come on (Y/N), hang out with me before you can't anymore. You go to college this fall. We need to hang out more." He says, sitting on the side of my chair. I wrinkle my nose.
"(Y/N), go on out with him. He's got a point. Soph and I will finish the tree while you guys are out." My mother chimes in. I pout, thinking.
"Fine, I'll take a walk with you. But thats it." I tell him. He nods, happy I admitted to anything. I then lean in close. "And then how about tonight we sneak out with some blankets and stuff and go to the pond and look at the sky?" I whisper. He grins. We used to do that as kids all the time. I also have a thing for the night sky. On those clear nights, the best thing to do is look at the moon and the stars.
"Deal." I smile and get up, going to the coat closet by the door and grabbing my maroon jacket with the fur hood. I grab my Bearpaws and maroon knit hat with a fur ball on the top. My jeans will keep me warm enough for a walk. My (h/l) (h/c) hangs out of my hat and I smile at my brother.
"I want to go! I want to go!" Soph yells, running up. I smile and pick the girl up, placing her on my shoulders.
"You can go if you put on your snow stuff, okay?" I tell her. She screams out happily. I put her down as she runs along. Its crazy the age difference between me and her. I'm 17, almost 18. She's so much younger.
"Thanks hun. I'll have some hot chocolate made for when you get back." My mother says, walking up. I kiss her on the cheek and smile.
"You read my mind." Soph skips up, her blue jacket on, along with her green scarf, hat and gloves. "Okay, lets get your boots on." I say, helping her into them. I pick her up again and place her on my shoulders. We take a walk to the pond that we used to hang out at.
Jamie goes on about a story of how he was with Santa, the Tooth Fairy, The Easter Bunny, Sandman, and Jack Frost here as they defeated the Boogy Man. Wow, what kind of dreams have this kid been having. We get to the pond and I put Soph down. I push my foot against the ice and I hear it crack under the small pressure. Its only been snowing for a couple days and it's been sunny all day. The ice is not safe enough to stand on.
"Well, we'll have to wait a little longer before we go ice skating." I tell them. Soph flops down and starts to make a snow angel.
"(Y/N)! (Y/N)! Make one with me!" I laugh and shake my head.
"I don't have all my snow stuff on. Neither do you, silly girl. You're going to freeze." I say, picking her up and spinning her. Suddenly, I slip and I wrap my arms around her so I take the force of the fall. I feel wind pass by and I fall onto a soft pile of snow. Was that there before?
"Jack!" Jamie yells. I look around me at the pile I'm in.
"Huh?" I ask. My brother runs up and stops in front of... nothing and starts talking. Soph gets out of my grip and runs up too. "What are you guys doing. Why are you guys just talking to the air?" I ask, getting up and brushing the snow off me.
"(Y/N), we're talking to Jack Frost! Don't you see him?" Jamie asks. I raise an eyebrow, walking up. I look around at nothing. I shake my head.
"I do not see anything. Now Soph, let's get you out of this weather before you get frostbite. We did not dress for playing. We can have some hot chocolate with marshmellows and whipped cream? How does that sound?" She cheers and I smile. "Jamie, are you heading in or are you staying out?" I ask. He looks at where he claims Jack Frost is.
"I'm going to stay out here for a while with Jack. You really don't see him?" He says sadly, looking up at me.
"Sorry bud. I really don't. Now, make sure you don't get frostbite or else we can't sneak out tonight." I tell him, whispering at the end so Sooh doesn't hear. I wink at him and I grab under Soph's arms from behind, spinning her around. "Alright princess, let's get you warmed up."
We walk back and I make my way back to my spot infront of the fireplace. Soph sits on my lap and I read her a story until she falls asleep. Soon, I do too.

Later that evening, after lights are out, I grab a bunch of blankets and put on my snow gear. I meet Jamie in the hallway and we slowly sneak out of the house. We go to the pond and up onto its rock ledge. I give him a thermos I made up and he takes a sip."I swear, you're addicted to hot chocolate." He tells me with a laugh.
I laugh, ruffling up his hair. "You would be too if you could make it this good." I smirk. He sticks his tongue out at me and I laugh. The stars tonight are beautiful. They are perfectly clear and the moon is full and large in the sky.
"We need to do this some more this Winter. Okay?" Jamie says, some sadness in his eyes.
"Okay. We will. I promise." I tell him. Then, a wind passes through and some snowflakes fall down. I look around. Where is the snow coming from? There's no clouds in the sky... Maybe its just snow from the trees. "Remember when we would ice skate down there." I tell Jamie, looking down at the pond below us.
He laughs. "Yeah. You taught me how to ice skate, but you let me fall on my face most of the time." I laugh back, grinning at him.
"It helped you learn, didn't it?" I remark.
"Yeah, it helped me learn it hurt when you fell." I shrug.
"You at least learned something." He laughs. He then looks at something and nods. I raise an eyebrow, but he's probably just nodding at what I said.
Though, I see some movement at the pond. I look down and see the images of a guy and a girl iceskating. My eyes widen. The ice isn't strong enough to have ice skaters. But when I take a closer look, I see they're blue and faceless. I stare in shock and they start to hover in the air. I push myself back, looking at my brother who smiles.
"Are you seeing this?" I ask and he nods. The iceskaters spin together and then combust into snow, a snowflake landing on my nose.
"Jack Frost." He says and I look at him and close my parted lips. This can't be some mythical being, right.
"No, this can't be..." I mutter.
"But it is." I spin around and look at the person behind me. A teenage boy around my age stands there. His hair is as white as snow, he wears a blue sweatshirt with frost covering it and blue jeans that are tattered with age. He then wears no shoes, and my first aid self is worried about him catching frostbite.
"Who are you?" I ask, my eyebrows furrowing.
"(Y/N), meet Jack Frost." Jamie says, smiling.
