Intelligence fades away as teenagers begin to use abbreviations for not only texting, but in everyday conversations. I can guarantee that if you say "lol", you either already are laughing out loud, therefore eliminating the need to say it, or you aren't laughing at all, in which case the person you are talking to can clearly see you are not doing so. There is absolutely no need to say it. The same applies with TTYL. Was that millisecond of time you saved really that important?
