Hidy! (Hi+Howdy)
Here are the explanations you've been waiting for! (Or a couple of them at least, I'll add more later)SEEKING
Daphne and Todd are friends.
*sees someone asked why he was alone*
To take a break from socializing/enjoy nature/ get away from his troubles/do a dare/avoid or hide from someone (any of these reasons may explain why he was out camping alone. The one I originally had in mind was to enjoy nature, but I gave zero indication, sorry, that falls on me. You could explain it any way you'd like) Todd goes camping alone. His friend daphne wishes him fun, then that days chat is over.
The next evening, unable to cope with the lack of social interaction after all, Todd uses his data (as mentioned later when he threatens 'daphne' that he'll get off) to try and talk to his friend. He sees that 'daphne' is on, but isn't responding. He gets a bit irritated, and figured he should just turn off his phone if she won't answer anyway, save his data and whatnot.
He tells her this, and she responds quickly so that he stays on.
I think now's as good a time as any to say; it's not actually daphne behind the phone.
You may have clued into this when the new person 'actually daphne' came into the group chat. Actuallydaphne warns Todd of the danger he's in, informing him that she lost her phone so she's texting or whatever from a police gadget. She speaks of how there's a person who steals or finds phones and uses them to locate others via the 'find their location' application. For example, even on my iPod there's a choice in each chat room I have; I always have it turned off, but if I wanted it too I could display my exact location to everyone in the chat with me. Of course, this only works accurately when you're connected to the internet/wifi/the magical-google-machine-thing, not when you're offline or out of range/not using your data to connect to it.
Anyway, the real daphne failed to tell Todd soon enough, and the kidnapper had already found him, responding to her via Todd's phone. The reason the kidnapper didn't text Todd a bunch was because he was driving, but he needed Todd to stay online so he texted back when Todd threatened to leave. The kidnapper didn't want daphne on the chat because he knew she could warn Todd.
We know 'daphne' is driving when he tells Todd he is; but you may have noticed he misspelled Todd, and denied driving later. That's because the man didn't want Todd to turn off his phone to stop 'daphne' from texting him in case Todd refused to let 'daphne' text him and drive. The man didn't mean to tell Todd he was driving, he meant to tell Tod. A completely different person with a different name that Todd, like you guys too I'm guessing, took as a simple misspelling. Tod would be the kidnapper's partner in crime, asking how the kidnapper is doing so far. The kidnapper just pulled a 'wrong number' as he had to focus on driving at night and was focusing on his and Todd's chat room anyway to make sure the boy stayed on. He went so far as to pretend to have a secret for Todd that he'd only tell him if Todd didn't go.
The kidnapper also knew roughly Todd's location by scrolling up and reading his and Daphne's earlier conversations, so he was already nearby waiting. He just needed an exact place. The fact he was knew before hand Todd would be at a camping site, and maybe even which one, explains how he was able to find Todd so fast, faster than he would've if he was back with civilization and not already near by.WILTED FLOWER
The title 'wilted flower' may seem to be disconnected from the chapter unless you realize it's a clue/foreshadowing. I used the title 'Wilted flower' as a synonym for 'dead lily', a key component in the chapter. Why? Because lily has been dead for almost 24hrs before this conversation took place.
She was killed by a man at the park; here are the hints that it's not lily on the phone:
-Kassy said her voice sounded weird on the phone (it's the man pretending to be her)
-both Kassy and Hannah commented on how unlike lily the texts were
--lily was happy that Kassy noticed (the murderer is stalking Kassy; he took her recognizing the difference in text tone as further proof she's meant for him since 'soulmates can always recognize each other'.)
-lily was not scared even though Hanna told everyone what a crybaby/worry wart she was.
-lily is oddly praising of Kassy and rude to Hannah, (odd behaviour for a friend, but perfect for a possessive creep)
-Brad-a smart and studious boy- noticed these differences and commented on how the girl on the newspaper looked like lily, as well saying 'get off their phones!' At the end. He also picked up on how lily knew what Kassy was doing despite living very far away, asking 'she's not with you?' Upon learning of the canceled party.
-lily signs off after saying she'll be right there to get Kassy, and only gets back on after Kassy starts acting weird(the man had gotten Kassy then and was using both phones)
-lily didn't tell Hannah about the sleepover because she 'forgot', yet Se clearly remembered enough to call and cancel(the man had been stalking Kassy when they spoke of it and overheard. Lily couldn't talk to Hannah about it because he killed her before hand. wanting a night when Kassy would be alone, he didn't tell Hannah.)
As for the series of events that happened, here are the actions tied to the corresponding texts:
-during the beginning of the texts, up until lily signs out, the man is watching Kassy through her window.
-after saying 'they'll be right there for Kassy' the man who was posing as lily signs out to use both hands in infiltrating her house.
-meanwhile, Brad having noticed the odd behaviour has pieced together that something isn't right and has left his phone to find the newspaper he read this morning, something about it bothering him. Upon returning he tries to talk about his suspicions with the girls.
-Pluto scratching at the door draws Kassy out of her allowing the man to creep inside.
-Brad figures out what was bothering him; that the girl in the photo is likely lily. Hannah and him then freak out, Hannah going so far as to call lily, but to no avail.
- Kassy sends the random letters because as she's texting she's also walking into the room where the man waits. He hits her unconscious but her fingers slide across her phone hitting the random letters then send.
-the man tries to cover it up, saying, as Kassy, that she merely tripped. He also signs back on as lily since he no longer needs to worry about using his hands to break in/ capture.
-once he knows that Brad isn't fooled he breaks character, telling them how happy he is with Kassy, and that he's going to kill Hannah slowly for being mean to her. (He killed lily quick as she was nice to Kassy, even if she stole his 'wife's' attention). To prevent Brad from warning Hannah, he blocked him from the conversation.PEOPLE DON'T 'UNPACK' AT 1AM
Emily lives with her parents and her brother. They just moved into a new house the other day so they've yet to finish unpacking. Groggy from just being asleep, although Emily does remember that her parents are out, she doesn't recall that her brother isn't home that night either, so when she hears movement (that woke her up) she assumes it's him getting a head start on unpacking. She quickly realizes it's not him after receiving his message about being out and waking further, and panics over what to do. She wants to call the police, but neither her or her brother have memorized their address yet, and she worries the thief might hear her and learn the house isn't empty like she assumes they think.
Playing the part of a fool, Emily decides to spy on the theif, worried about what's being stolen, or maybe to get a description for the police later.
In any case, she eavesdrops on his phone call learning that he is there for a female sacrifice. Due to the unlikely odds that the stranger would know she was there alone that night, she accuses her brother of pulling a prank. Thankfully Emily doesn't risk it and listens to her brother, trying the doors; they're all locked or jammed/barred shut leaving her trapped between her room and the kitchen.
Emily hides under her bed and turns off her phone so the man can't see its light in the dark room while her brother gets their address from his friends mom and calls the police.
The stranger, knowing Emily had to be in her room since he was in the kitchen and the halls have no hiding places, quickly found her and after knocking her out he uses her phone to thank the bright for the warning, saying that he can easily escape the police with a five minute head start.SAM (sorry, I know I said I'd have this one up WAAAAY sooner, but I somehow locked myself out of my iPod and I'm not too great with the computer... I'm back now though! And hopefully I'll get better at updating...)
Sandy and Preston were siblings, who had a very good friend named Samantha. The day before this chat, the siblings and Sam spoke as usual, laughing and telling each other their plans. Planning Sandy's murder ahead of time, Samantha told her 'friends' that she was going camping the next day, providing an alibi, after learning Sandy would be home alone. After the deed was done, as she texted Preston using Sandy's phone to change the time of death; it's not that odd for a super good friend to know the password if it was password protected, and by asking about Preston's personal life, the soccer game, she made it seem more like it was Sandy texting as a stranger likely wouldn't know that. She, being 'camping', and their best friend(Preston would vouch for her on both accounts), wouldn't be suspected.
Sam continued the charade as long as she could, however, what she did not plan for was Preston getting sick last minute and skipping the game. The small, weak Preston was forced to watch Sam kill his sister, while in hiding, terrified. Once his horror and betrayal turned to determination, he texts back his deceased sister's phone 'Sam' to confuse the once best friend, now murderer. He keeps this up as long as he can, then, once he thinks Sam is going to leave anyway, goal of changing the time of death done, he goads her to stay by telling her he knows the truth. She then starts searching for him in the house, him watching from inside the bathroom. He's happy to know she will be put behind bars upon hearing the police outside, caught for her crime, even if it meant he had to get caught-maybe killed- himself when she finally enters the bathroom.
