Chapter 1: The color red
" FIRE!" The commander yelled.
I couldn't think straight. The kids ran the opposite direction of the tree....we didn't know for sure but George had his mind set.
" I just said FIRE! Earth to you wimps!"
We all held the guns stiffly completely pale.
" I understand they are kids but there is no other choice"
After our stalling, fire came from beneath the dirt. One shot was followed by another and soon all the small bodies were lying on the floor, so lifeless. I looked down at my hands, the ones that had just killed, a child who was most likely forced to be on the task. Tears welled up in my eyes. Because of fear, because of ego we have shot them down. Maybe for once the Americans should back out...for one fucking time! All the other soldiers looked just as devastated as I, but they had a choice to come. While on the other hand I was basically dragged out here. Why did I have to be a fit 18 year old? Why god?
I have never been so desperate to be a bloody handicap...fortunate for them, they weren't drafted. If only I could be a lucky bastard alongside.
My body was taken to a room and the lights turned off. They knew how bad this has scarred me. I closed my eyes finally drifting off to a deep slumber, but I knew it would result into another horrible nightmare.

" EVACUATE! GRAB YOUR GUNS! THEY ARE COMING!"
I grabbed the used gun beside me and ran for the door.
Right in front of us were many...and when I say many I meant maybe hundreds of thousands, Vietnamese soldiers coming at us. This was horrible...they definitely had the upper hand, not only cause of the numbers but because of the rage in their eyes seeking revenge for the dead bodies laying by he tree. I didn't want to shoot, they should shoot me, I deserve to die. BOOM! A shot was fired and many more after that but I stand their completely in shock. Dead people here, dead people there, dead people everywhere. Body parts flew in every direction with screams of agony covering the gunshots' loud thunders. This wasn't fighting for my country, this was watching my friends die side by side. Just watching...
A horrible shriek filled the air but this time it was especially loud. The soldiers around me stared for a second and I looked down to the bullet in my foot and stabs on my shoulders, it was me who screamed. As much as I was ranting before on how I should die, I didn't have the courage for that, my family is depending me.
A bolt of determination flood through my body and I ran. Ran away from the horrible blood shed of some of the people most dearest to me. Am I a Coward? I know I am but I could care less now. My legs wore down and nothing was in sight. If it weren't for the cold weather and snow, blood would be dripping everywhere but thankfully the wounds are frozen.
Come on you can do it. Just a few more steps or else all this work will go to waste. They will find you! COME ON!
I listened to the voice inside my head and moved further dragging my injured and numb leg along with me. My eyes began to blur at the sight. Was I really seeing it. A cabin, just a simple cabin. I ran forgetting the weird feeling in my arm.The view was getting closer and I was more glad then ever. The wind began to go against me chilling anything inside of me that wasn't cold before. The door was finally in front of my eyes and I knocked but I couldn't feel how hard I had done it. Would they hear? Were they even here?
