Falling for toothless?! // stranger things

Part 6

Dustin left to get his stuff for our first class with Mr. Clark, I finished getting my stuff and started walking to class thinking about Dustin. I walked into the classroom right as the bell rang and sat in my seat next to Dustin, he was already in his seat.
I looked over at him to find he was already looking at me, he gave me his goofy little smile that I love so much and I laughed in return, I looked over at Will and gave him a thumbs up. He immediately knew what I was thumbing him up for and he gave me a huge smile, I could see the happiness in his eyes, I giggled at him because of how excited he is about this.
I turned my head to the front of the room and waited for Mr. Clark to begin the lesson but was confused when a girl I've never seen before walked into the room.
"Ahh yes!" Mr. Clark began "this is our new student Maxine!"
"It's Max" the ginger haired girl said annoyance "no one calls me Maxine"
Dustin looked to the others.
"Madmax" Lucas and Dustin said in sync.
I looked at them confused at first but then I remembered Will telling me about the score on dig dug after getting back from the arcade a few days ago.
"Alright Max!" Mr. Clark said enthusiastically.
The girl continued walking to an empty seat in the back of the room, the boys and I watching her intensely with every step she took.
Time skip
(Lunch recess)
The boys and I stared at her as we watched her skate on her skateboard.
"Y'know guys, this is pretty creepy if you ask me" I said in a matter of fact tone.
"No one asked" mike responded sassily
I rolled my eyes and sighed.
"If you guys are so interested in her, why don't you just go up and talk to her?" I snapped back
They rolled their eyes
"We can't just waltz up to her and ask if she's madmax!" Lucas responded
I rolled my eyes.
I started walking towards Max
"Where are you going!" I heard Dustin and Lucas yell from behind me.
I looked back at then and started walking backwards
"Someone's gotta do it" I said raising up my arms.
I turned back around and continued walking, I heard a little 'she's crazy' from the boys which made me laugh a little.
I finally reached Max.
"Umm excuse me? Max?"
She stopped skateboarding and looked at me.
"Umm yeah? How can I help you?"
"Well you see those boys over there?" I said pointing towards my party and they immediately looked away and pretended to be doing something else.
"Oh yeah, the stalkers"
I laughed at her nickname for them.
"Yeah those guys, they were wondering if you're 'madmax'"
"Why? Are they mad that I beat their score or something?"
"Ohhh yes"
She laughed
"Good, but yes I am madmax"
"Nice to know" I said laughing.
She laughed along with me.
I stuck my hand out for her to shake.
"I'm Evan by the way"
She took my hand.
"Nice to meet you Evan" she said with a smile.
"Well i better get back to the stalkers"
We both laughed.
"Could you actually do me a favor?" Max asked.
"Of course"
"Could you actually give them this note for me?"
"Umm yeah sure"
She reached out her hand with a crumpled piece of paper in it, I took it in my own.
"What does it say anyways?" I asked
"Oh it just tells them to leave me alone"
"Ahh I see" I laughed "Alright, I'll deliver it to them"
She laughed "thank you"
I started walking back, I gave Max a small smile and a wave which she returned and then continued skating, And i continued walking back over to the boys.
"Well she is madmax, oh! And she has a note for you guys"
They looked confused.
I placed it into Dustin's hand and he uncrumpled it and read it to himself.
"Oh.... oops"
I laughed at him and he looked at me and returned the laugh.
I slung my arm over Dustin's shoulder.
"You're such a weirdo" I said laughing
He looked at me
"Yeah but I'm your weirdo" he said with a wink which made me laugh more.

"Will and Evangeline Byers?" We heard a yell and turned around to see a teacher.
I looked over at Will and he looked nervous.
He looked over at me and I gave him a nod letting him know everything was okay.
"Bye Dustin" I said while giving him a kiss on the cheek.
Will and I walked over to the teacher and she led us to our moms car.
About almost a full year ago, Will went missing riding his bike home from a 10 hour D & D campaign at Mikes.
I of course wasn't there because I was still trying to find the guts to ask to play with them.
I regret that night every single day because I wish I could've been there for my twin, I wish it was me instead of him so he wouldn't have to go through all this pain and fear, I hate seeing him so upset because even though I know what happened I still don't even know the full length he went through.
But I still try to be there for him as much as I can because I need him to know he can always talk to me, and that I love him more than anything in the world.

I compromised and made it both tonight AND tomorrow. Ah ah? No? Okay I'll just leave now...
