Falling for toothless?! // stranger things

Part 7

I looked over at Will and he looked very nervous.
I held out my hand for him to grab and he took it with ease, I gave him a reassuring squeeze.
"Umm Evan, sweetie?" My Mom says with concern
"Yes Mom?"
"Why is there a bandage strip on your nose?" She asked
I totally forgot.
I looked at Will nervously and he gave me a nod, signaling to tell the truth.
I took a deep breath.
"I was punched..."
There was a long pause.
"You WHAT?!" She yelled "by who! Why did they punch you?!"
"His name is Troy and he punched me because he was going to punch Will but I stepped in the way.."
She sighed.
"Oh honey, you're so sweet trying to protect your brother" she said with a small smile "but is this 'troy' kid the one that bullied you two and the boys last year?"
"Yeah, him and his buffoon James"
"I thought they stopped bothering you guys"
"So did we after eleven made him piss his pants" I laughed but soon grew sad at the though of el "but he bullied me today because he heard me say-"
I trailed off and went wide-eyed

"After you said what?" My Mom asked, concern growing in her voice.
I gulped at looked at Will for help, he just laughed at me and I glared at him.
"What did you say, Evan?" Mom repeated
"Go on Evie, you can say it" will encouraged while laughing.
I glared at him again and looked down.
" I'm in love with Dustin" I mumbled
"You what? I couldn't hear you"
"I'm in love with Dustin" I said still very quietly
"Honey I still can't hear you, please speak up"
"I'm in love with Dustin!" I yelled.
I look out the window, embarrassed about my confession and because I snapped.
Mom sighed.
"Are you sure it's love?"
"Yes..."
She sighed again
"My little evie is growing up" she said with a hint of sadness
"And he likes me back..."
"Of course he does, you're beautiful"
I smiled
"Thanks Mom"
"Are you going to date him though?"
"Yeah, I think I am"
"Aww my little evie" she said with a big smile.
I looked at Will and laughed, soon both Will and my mom joined in with me.

The rest of the car ride was silent.
I could feel the tension burning in the car.

We pulled into the lab parking lot where hopper was already waiting.
"Hey kiddos" he said as we were getting out of the car, trying to lighten the mood.
I walked up to him and have him a hug which he returned.
He pulled away and ruffled my hair.
"How's it going hops?" I asked while grabbing his hand
"Not much evie, how about you?"
He asked while squeezing my hand slightly.
Ever since last year, I've always thought of hopper more as a father figure to will and I, he always treats Will and I as if we're his own children. Sure Will is a bit awkward around hopper but I love how much he cares for us, he's like the father I've always wanted.
If I'm being completely honest I do wish my mom decided to date hops instead of bob, but I still do love bob. Very much.
"Nothing much hops"
"Oh really?" He said with doubt
"Yeah really"
"Hmm, then why do you have that bandage on your nose?"
My face went red with embarrassment
"Oh right... that.. I keep forgetting" I laugh nervously.
I knew hopper was going to freak when he found out.
"Well?" He asked impatiently
"You promise you won't freak out?" I asked while walking into the lab doors.
He looked at me with concern.
"Promise me hop!"
"Okay, okay I promise!" He said lifting his free hand in defeat.
I sighed
"I was kinda, sorta, punched in the face..?"
Hopper stopped in his tracks abruptly which caused me to stumble a little at the sudden stop.
"You. Were. What?!" He yelled turning slightly so he could look at me.
I could see the anger burning in his eyes which scared me a little.
"I was punched" I stuttered out
"By who!"
"Troy..."
"Oh course it was him! That little shit!" He growled
"It's okay hops, really"
"No it not okay! He broke your nose!"
"Well, almost.." I said correcting him
Hopper let out a heavy sigh and put is hand on his mouth with the other hand on his hip.
He looked around the room and saw everyone was staring at us.
He looked back at me
"We will finish this later" he said sternly
"Okay hops"
He grabbed my hand, not realizing he let go of it during his little fit, we continued walking to where my mom and Will was.
They pushed passed us because they knew hopper was going to make a scene and they didn't want to be apart of it.
The rest of the walk was quiet because of the awkward tension.
When we walked into the room Will was already hooked up to the monitor and was explaining his most recent episode to doctor Owens.

"I heard this noise, and so I went outside, and it was worse" will explained weakly

"How was it worse?"

"There was this, storm"

"Okay. So how did you feel when you saw the storm?"

"I felt... frozen"

"Heart racing?"

"Just frozen"

"Frozen, cold frozen? Frozen to the touch?"

"No. Like how you feel when you're scared, and you can't breathe or talk or do anything" Will trailed off "I felt... felt this evil. Like it was looking at me"

"It was evil, well what do you think the evil wanted?"

"To kill"

"To kill you?"

"Not me... everyone else"

My blood ran cold when Will said that, and I felt extremely worried and scared for the future...

No Dustin this chapter sadly... but he'll of course be in the next one!
