what inspired you to create hester? >> a lotta things inspired me to create hester. for example, me actually going to see it. i kind of knew before i went to see the movie that i was going to end up creating a fan fiction about it, but i wasn't sure what. i don't really remember what made me choose this plot specifically, but i knew i didn't want it to be about finding a dead body *stand by me*, or a clown *it*, or have anything to do with the plots of stand by me and it besides the characters and location. so i sort of just made this.
i thought a lot of eleven (stranger things) and starfire (teen titans) (and slightly raven from teen titans) and still do when i write this character, just in the way she thinks, behaves and acts. she is quite naive like eleven and starfire, but she has different aspects of them both. like starfire, she experiences bursts of emotion. but like eleven, she is a little bit more introverted and keeps to herself. so ya i thought a lot about them. i also just wanted a strong female lead who was different. like, instead of the white 16 year old girl with special power, hester is the black 12 year old girl with demons growing inside of her, which give her those special powers.
