Waking up in someone's arms was unusual to Camryn, but today they didn't mind. When the bell signaling breakfast was almost ready rang Camryn reluctantly climbed out of Vi's arms and turned to place a kiss on her cheeks. Vi woke up with a smile and said a quick good morning before sitting up and grabbing her makeup box.
Camryn waltzed over to the desk and turned on the lamp, propping open a mirror and grabbing a few eye pallets from the drawer. They contemplated which one to use, but decided on the Saint and Sinner pallet. They did a quick red eye and put gold on their lid. After perfecting the wing they did a quick layer of foundation and filled in their brows as lazily as possible. They applied a nude lip and changed into a 'Set it off' band tee. Opting for the ripped jeans over the normal ones, they climbed into them and then put on their converse. Feeling too lazy to fix their hair, they just put it in a messy bun.
When Camryn turned around she saw Vi with a rather dark makeup look. She paired a brown eye look with a deep purple lip. She was wearing a cute purple sweater and black leggings. "Well hello gorgeous." Vi said, walking over and placing a small kiss on their lips. Camryn smiled into the kiss and whispered a small compliment as they parted.
"I'm sorry I kept you up last night Vi." Camryn awkwardly said, averting eye contact. "I didn't want you to see me like that."
"Green," Vi began,"you shouldn't ever be sorry. I'm happy I was there to help." They let a silence fall between them. "Are you okay though? You had me worried sick..."
"Yeah, it's just..." Camryn drifted off, not sure of how to explain it.
"Just what?" Vi looked concerned.
"Whenever I see those lights, it reminds me of that day... the day when I lost everyone, everything... the whole life I had was stripped from me. Adelaide, Kayton," Camryn took a breath,"my mom..." Vi brought them into a tight hug, and as the second bell rang she placed a kiss on her chin.
They walked down to the dining room, sitting next to each other near the end of the table. Camryn had no appetite, but ate a few bites to avoid any conflict with the Foster Parents. Vi squeezed their hand under the table, making brief eye contact before turning to look at their foster father who walked in and gathered the groups attention.
"Morning girls." He began, waiting for a reply. A few girls said a small 'morning' and waited for him to continue. "I have a few things to cover, so eat quietly. This morning as I was reviewing the camera footage from last night I witnessed something." He looked in their general direction and the two grew slightly panicked. "Girls, sadly one of you needs to leave, and arrangements have been made for you to be picked up tomorrow morning." The group stopped their chatting and looked around nervously. "Marisal," He began, looking at the 7 year old girl, who had grown to be a favourite amongst the others there, "when you entered this group Home you were given 5 points, and 5 points only, correct?" She nodded and began to cry, her sister Nataley pulled her into a hug as she new what was coming. "Marisal, you broke a rule last night, didn't you?" She nodded again, sobbing uncontrollably. "We all know here that there is to be no snack eating and no rummaging for food past a certain hour. But Marisal went downstairs at roughly 3am, when we were all asleep, and had a bowl of cereal. But if she had just eaten dinner and not had a fit yesterday she wouldn't of had to have done that, would you Marisal?" She shook her head. "So for those two actions your last two points have been removed. Go pack your belongings please. The social workers will arrive sometime on the second. Please have all belongings packed by then." He looked heartless, he didn't care that these two sisters likely wouldn't see each-other for years... Marisal trudged upstairs with Nataley following behind her, leaving a room of crying or at least teary eyed girls, including Camryn. They had lived this moment, they know how Marisal must feel, or at least some extent of it. Girls began chatting with one another, saying things like "she's only seven!" "All She did was eat cereal" "now she's officially lost everything" "poor Marisal, poor Nataley!"
"Now," he continued, silencing the girls, "my second and final point. Alex and Camryn," he snapped his head towards me. "As you know, you are no longer considered a foster child, rather an orphan." They nodded. "Don't be alarmed, you aren't the only ones here. I just wanted to remind you." Vi looked down, holding in tears. "So, tomorrow two men will be coming in to meet the girls here that are up for adoption. So if I state your name, please be downstairs and sitting in the therapy space by no later then 6pm. The girls are, from youngest to oldest: Alex, 8, Jiacia, 10, Gianna, 10, Heidi, 13, Camryn, 15, and Alishia, 17." With that he turned and walked away. Vi ran upstairs and slammed their door, Camryn followed soon after.
Once Camryn had finally convinced Violet to open the door they found her with tears streaming down her face. "Why didn't you tell me you were no longer considered a foster kid?" Vi asked, sitting in the corner of the room. She was noticeably shaking.
"I still don't want to believe it..."
"Why are you an orphan now? If you don't want to tell me that's fi-"
Camryn cut her off, "my mother... she never filled out the new paperwork... she didn't care enough. That or she didn't survive the atta-"
This time Vi was the one to cut Camryn off. "Don't you dare finish that sentence. Your mother loves you! And I promise you she will find you, somehow. Like you always say she never gives up on her family..." Camryn pulled Vi into a hug, but she pulled away. "I can't loose you tomorrow Green..." she began to sob,"I can't. I'll have no one here, they'll probably ship me away again and I'll never be able to find you, they'll claim it's confidential. What if you get adopted, I'll loose you forever and I'll-"
"You'll never loose me. You have my phone number, my instagram, my Snapchat, everything. There's nothing that can separate us... and besides, we know how these adoptions work. They walk in and see the youngest one, talk to her for an hour, say a quick hello to the rest, and a week later the youngest is picked up and brought to their new family."
"But what if this couple is different, what if they don't want the struggle of eight-year old Alex? What if they want someone who is already mature?" She questioned. "I can't loose you..."
"And you won't." Vi leaned on Camryn's shoulder, and Camryn placed a kiss on Vi's forehead.
"I love you, Green." Camryn nearly choked hearing those three words.
"I love you too."
