Camryn woke up to the feeling of being in the arms of someone. They panicked for a moment and tensed as the person woke up. "Cam, go back to bed, it's still dark out..." Vi reassuringly stated, placing a kiss on their forehead. Camryn smiled, and cuddled in closer.
"just making sure you're still alive." They joked, but Vi began to lightly snore, making it aware to Cam that she had drifted back to sleep. They shifted slightly and looked out of the window, watching the rain fall brought a sense of comfort.
Just as they began drifting back to sleep a police car sped past. Camryn blinked repeatedly, trying to forget it had happened, but it was too late. They shot up as events of previous trauma began to play in their mind. The last time this happened Adelaide was there to calm them, to comfort them and remind them that they were not being separated again, but this time she wasn't there. They had been separated, it had happened again. Camryn began to hobble towards the wall, opting for the empty corner. They leaned against the two walls and ran their finger into their hair, pulling at the strands. They were sobbing at this point, and had put themselves into a defensive position, the same one they had used when the social workers came.
A light turned on in the room. Camryn turned slightly and saw Violet standing in a state of shock. The condition that Camryn had worked themselves into set an expression of panic and worry into Vi's face. She approached Camryn slowly at first, but Camryn didn't move, so she decided to approach quicker.
Camryn looked at Vi desperately. They needed to be held, to be comforted and told everything was alright.
Violet took Camryn in her arms, and as they eased into the hold their legs grew wobbly. Camryn slid down the wall, still grasping tightly to Violet's shirt, pulling her down as well. Violet pulled Camryn close, holding her back and her head, keeping her close and whispering reminders of the good they currently have.
"Shh, shh... it's okay. No one's here for you. No one will take you from me. I'm right here. Nothing can separate us now. It was just a police car. There are no workers here. I won't let anyone take you, ever." Camryn's breathing slowed and their sobs became soft whimpers. Violet began to slowly rock them side to side. Humming a melody from Lana Del Rey into their ears, playing with their hair.
"Thank you..." Camryn spoke up ages later. They had spent the better part of an hour like that. Camryn squeezed Vi tighter, making sure to take in the moment. Vi responded by kissing Cam on their forehead and placing her chin there afterwards.
Vi spent what felt like another hour holding Camryn like that. When she heard soft snoring she wrapped her arms under Camryn's legs and back and lifted them up, placing Camryn on the bed. She ook their shoes off for them, as they had originally fell asleep with them on and Vi climbed in behind, opting to be the bigger spoon, she knew Camryn needed to be held. Vi placed a kiss on Camryn's neck and began playing with her hair. "I'll always be here," Vi began, speaking to a sleeping Camryn, "no matter what."
