___________________________Cold. Dark. Alone.
For whatever reason I couldn't perceive my surroundings, though my eyes we're wide open. An impenetrable pitch black, swallowing all colors in existence. Although my sight betrayed me, the cool sensation of the concrete below gave me some comfort. I hadn't fallen into some sort of black hole at least. This knowledge gave me a small straw of hope to hold onto.
Slowly I worked myself onto my feet. Careful not to bump into anything or loose my footing. With calculated movement I turned my head in all directions. Not a single thing in sight. Yet this wasn't the thing that unsettled me the most. Strange, not a single sound reverberated through the empty space. Had this been some kind of room I'd have at least heard something.
Unnerved I stood frozen in place. Not daring to take even a single step. Breathing as quietly as possible. Unsure of what to do I tried to find a light. Or at least something that would help me ground and figure out which way to go. Some time ticked by as I remained rooted to my spot.
I knew my patience was growing thin, yet the fear of threading into the unknown made me hesitate. Should I try to find a way out? Making up my mind I took a discreet step forward, arms stretched out before me. Agonizingly slow I progressed further into the thick darkness blanketing everything around me while fighting the urge to give up.
However the farther my legs took me, the lighter my surroundings seemed to grow. Albeit near unnoticeably I was sure of it. It felt like an eternity had passed before I could finally make out a dim light in front of me. Delighted by this discovery I sped up my pace. Each step bringing me closer to a possible way out. Yet the nearer I got, the louder the sound of static ringing in my head got.
At first it played around the back of my mind, not bothering me one bit. Though the noise soon turned into an incredibly annoying and even painful pressure underneath my skull, prompting me to grip the sides of my head in desperation. The excruciating sensation reached a crescendo once I stepped into source of the light. Loud enough for me to fall to my knees in agony while closing my eyes clutching my head in an attempt to make it stop.
Without notice, however, the static noise disappeared. Waves of relief crashed through me as I took this opportunity to observe my now visible surroundings. Oddly enough I currently found myself in a lush, green forest. Mossy trees enclosing me while I tried to catch my breath. Determined to uncover as much information as possible I observed every detail around me.
Upon closer inspection I noticed how the trees seemed healthy at first glance yet with a closer look turned out to barely hold on to life. Thus cladding them a rather eerie vibe, which was only strengthened by the smog dancing in the air. If anything, the forest seemed dead. The kind of place you'd expect to see in a horror movie.
Immediately my instincts were on high alert, guiding me to scramble back up on my feet. My gut telling me not to stay in one place for too long. With a heavy heart I took my first steps forward. God knows where I'm going to end up next, yet the thought of what might be lurking around here prompted me to keep moving forward.
An unexpected gust of wind had me wrap my arms around myself in an attempt to stop the shivers from worsening. I honestly did not feel at ease in here. Goosebumps causing the hairs on my arms and neck to raise in discomfort. My unease only grew with each step I took. Something told me that I wasn't alone in here. No, something far more sinister was lurking around. Following me every step of the way. Keeping their distance while observing my every move with predatory intent. I could only hope it'd stay that way. Though I'm well aware of how horrible my luck is when it comes to these kinds of sticky situations.
