We've been in Sunsetville for almost two weeks now and I'm kinda starting to get used to it, it's never going to be home but I don't feel like it's such a strange place anymore. Five of the other apartments in our building are occupied and we've met the people living in four of them. Emily Carter and her fifteen year old son AJ, she's a nice and friendly little lady with wavy red hair and green eyes behind cute glasses. Her son has her red hair accompanied with blue eyes and lots of freckles. She told us that he's autistic so he won't be in the same school that I'm going to, they don't have a program to accomodate autistic students.
AJ's very sweet and enthusiastic, Koni and I get along with him very well which is good cause there are no other kids in the building. She came up to our apartment with some delicious lasagna, my mom's not much of a cook so we're particularly grateful for that.
We've also met the Zhengs an Asian couple that live in the apartment above us, they seem nice too. We've met Mr Greenberg the grumpy old man right across from us who scowls every time we pass by, I don't think he likes kids. And of course Terry the landlord who has been nothing but helpful and kind. I think he feels bad for us because thanks to Koni's big mouth he's sort of figured out why we're here.
I've tried not to think about the reason we're here but every time I hear my mother sobbing at night I remember what my reality is now, that my dad is some sort of monster that hurts my mom and now we're hiding from him. I ended up taking the smaller room because Koni wanted to stay with my mom so she and I switched places which works for me, sharing a room with Koni would be so stressful, he talks non stop and keeps trying to get me to play with his toys which is cute at first but gets old fast. My mom seems to be cool with it though so that's nice.
I'm sitting in French class right now and everyone here looks just as bored I am. I put my head on the desk and stare at my used sneakers, a reminder that I'm now supposed to be a different person. When I got ready for my first day of school I had on a white armani blouse, D&G jeans, Louis Vuitton boots and a Michael Kors handbag, I felt was optimistic and was open to making new friends till my mom told me I had to change. Apparently my mom needs us to be as toned down as possible and that was when I noticed that my mom was a lot more dressed down than she usually is.
We came here in the SUV, the one car that stood out from all the others in our garage. My dad was a big car guy and loved his fancy cars, he even got me an expensive white porsche for my sixteenth birthday so I always found it weird that he bought a grey SUV that we never used. Till this whole mess I thought we'd never use it. After I changed into the most subtle clothes I owned she took us to a thrift store to get a new wardrobe and those were the clothes I was wearing right now.
Well French class just ended and since it was my last class I'm supposed to take the bus home now because I don't have a car anymore. I look out the window and stare at the scenery. As small as it is it's a beautiful town with large trees, colorful flowers and lots of butterflies. I wish the town was named after one of it's beautiful features, If it was then maybe they'd get more visitors.
While I was distracted by the scenery I ended up getting off at the wrong stop and now I'm lost. Maybe I'll use this chance to explore the woods, I mean it's not like I could get anymore lost than I already am.
I was wrong, I am extremely lost and my phone battery is dead, I always forget to charge the stupid thing. I keep walking with no idea of where I'm going, the pretty scenery is starting to look scary now and I end up at the top of a waterfall. I didn't even know this town had a waterfall, it's pretty high up and I don't want to fall so I start to back away when I hear a deep voice behind me.
"Hey what are you doing!"
I turn around and I see a tall attractive looking blonde guy about my age behind me. His attractiveness doesnt matter right now however because currently the most striking thing about him is the urgency in his deep blue eyes.
