"Mother, tell me about the colours again," I begged. I was desperate to hear it again.

"Sweetie, you're fifteen. You should be able to recite it word by word, by now. I've told you every day since you were nine." She sighed.

I whined. "But mother! Your voice makes it sound so enchanting!" I sank into the couch.

"Okay, I'll tell you. It all started when i saw him across the street, and something flashed..."

I didn't listen to the rest of the story. I didn't need to. Like she said, I knew it by heart. Her voice always put me to sleep easily. I started to doze off on the couch. A few minutes later, I was out. Dreaming about her story. Like always.

---

I woke hours later, covered with a blanket. "Thanks mom.." I whispered. I cuddled the blanket, thinking about what color could possibly look like. It was impossible. A lost cause. It was late anyway. I sighed and fell back asleep..

---

It was very early morning now, close to two AM, and this time, I woke to the sound of the front door closing. Strangely quietly. Who would break in... through the front door? I thought to myself. I pushed my blanket off and walked cautiously towards the kitchen. I mumbled something and my sister turned around.

"Stephanie! Good morning! Gosh, you sleep forever!" She said quietly, happier than normal.

"Mornin' " I mumbled back. My mind was racing when I heard her giggle. I finally raised my head and got a good look at my sister.

"Wait... Sarah..? Sarah..! Sarah, oh my god Sarah!" I wrapped her in a tight hug and pulled her as close and possible, crying. I haven't seen Sarah in years.

She sobbed quietly. "Stephanie... I missed you..." I held her closer than I ever have before. I didn't want to lose her again.

Once we finally calmed down, we sat on the couch and talked. I realized what time it was, but I ignored it. "So, how are you?" I asked, choking back tears. She was calm, I was still a bit shaken.

"Oh, everything's been great." She leaned close and whispered. "I found my soulmate..." Right after I heard that, I nearly squealed. She covered my mouth quickly. I bit her hand and she pulled away.

"What's his name?!" I whisper-shouted.

"SHUSH!!" She covered my mouth. She thought about what to say. "It's... not a guy..." She mumbled. I bit her hand and she pulled it away quickly, hissing in pain. "I come home after many many years.. and you BITE me? What the hell!" She nearly yelled. I covered her mouth this time.

"Your soulmate is a what now?" I asked, somewhat threateningly. She pushed my hand away and mumbled.

"What?"

"..A girl..."

"Mom's gonna kill you!"

"I'm going to what?" Moms voice came from the hallway. "Stephanie, who are you talking to?"

"Oh.. G-Good morning mom..." I stammered. It was still dark, so she couldn't see Sarah. I pushed at her shoulder, hoping she remembers what that means and where our hiding place was.

"I was talking to Camille, she did something that might upset her mom.." This time I didn't stammer, which I was proud of. I felt Sarah slip away from my fingertips as she felt her way to the hidden door in the wall. Sarah hit something and it made a loud noise, so I threw myself onto the floor.

"Stephanie, what was that!" She sounded panicked.

"I felt something touch my back, so by reflex I fell off the couch." That didn't sound very realistic, but she bought it.
