I've read something in the midst of 2015.
It was a blog of an ex-sm trainee, I've read this on naver btw. She said that they use their artists (even trainees) to be able to gain enough incomes and sponsorship. She also said thag if you take a look at it, idols train for a few years to be able to debut. The reason is not because of their talents, but more on their beauty/visual. It is also said there that the more you are prettier, the more sponsors you can gain. This is like you were becoming a sex slavery, which is why many people quit being a trainee because sometimes they are sending threats and such.
