———Remus took one last look at his home before he set off, head hung low, belongings with him in a bag on his back. It was the start of it all. There would be no going back. He wasn't sure what exactly was going on, but he knew it wasn't good.
Around him, witches and wizards were hustling and bustling about, making sure their belongings were on their persons before they Apparated to everybody's destination: The Leaky Cauldron. It was no use of him following their leads, as 1) the place would be chaotic, and 2) muggles would not be safe with him in the muggle world. Therefore, his primary concern was to escape his home and find some place to stay while everything was happening.
"Remus!"
Someone had called his name, and he turned to see James approaching him in long strides. He stopped, taking in he worry and confusion on his face.
"Where are you going?" James asked.
"Somewhere to hide, of course."
"Why not to the muggle world? Like everybody else?"
Remus let out a humorless chuckle. "Picture a deadly werewolf in a muggle world. He would have a field day."
James rolled his eyes. "You still have to be safe, you know? Come with Lily and I."
"Are you two not leaving?" Remus furrowed his eyebrows.
James shook his head. "We figured that whatever is going on, it'd be safer to stay here. It was going to spread to the muggle world eventually, and it's more dangerous there than here."
Remus nodded at the explanation. "Smart. Did Lily come up with that by herself?"
James grinned. "Am I not capable of thinking?"
"Obviously not. But, thanks for the offer—"
"At least stay with Sirius. Or even Pettigrew! Lily and I need to know you're safe. And you know how she is, with her hormones all out of wack and her motherly instincts taking over."
Remus genuinely smiled at the reminder that Lily was two months pregnant. He remembers when James first told him, jittery and excited.
"Don't worry, I'll be safe, James. I'll see you guys in a bit."
James took a step in the opposite direction when he whirled back around and pulled his friend in for a hug. The brunette slowly raised his arms to hug the man back firmly. He wish he didn't have to go, leave James and Lily on their own—except for when Sirius most likely visits. He wanted to be there when their child was born. But he was better off alone, where he couldn't harm anybody. Especially the baby.
"Take care," James wished before walking back, disappearing within seconds.
Remus' gaze lingered on the spot before he turned back and continued to where he was heading before, wand tucked in his sleeve in case he needed it.
Thank you so much for choosing this book to read! I hope you enjoyed, sorry for any mistakes I have made, and feel free to point anything out or suggest something! My disclaimers are in my bio so I don't have to repeat it in every book :p
Quick note; I am prone to losing motivation halfway through a work, so if I'm not updating a lot, that might be why. So, a little smack to the face and tell me to update would help keep this book running. :)
