Jealousy

With the blood income running low from a recent virus outbreak, Shell had been running back and forth with orders in order to keep up with the rise in demand.  Sweat had plastered his platinum blonde bangs to his forehead as he heaved in the corridor.  Relentlessly, he checked the time once more.  12:13pm.  With only three quarters of the day finished, the idea of sleep seemed like an eternity away.  Adjusting his jacket, he continued down the hall and chewed on his lip nervously as he passed his....hobby room as one may put it.  It'd been three weeks since he'd last met with Eric in there and since then, he'd been completely out of sight.

Had Shell done something wrong?  Was Eric avoiding him?  How long would this go on for?  Each day after work, the vampire would linger around the room in hopes that his lover would burst through that door and take him right then and there.  Yet, to no avail.  Shaking his head, he attempted to clear his thoughts before entering the lobby where his father stood in front of the line of workers.  Stopping at the door, he noticed Eric ahead of the row, the only worker not staring back at the overlord eerily.

"Father," his voice cracked, making his way down the line and attempting to make any type of contact with Eric.

Yet, his eyes rested on the ground, lip twitching as Shell passed him.  The young overlord shut his eyes painfully, tearing his eyes away.  Of course Eric wouldn't want to see him.  Maybe he finally decided that Shell wasn't worth the trouble after all.  Subsiding every urge to run back to his mundane lover, the vampire marched up to his father and handed him the folders as requested.  The head looked as exhausted, or even more so, as his son.  And a rare smile peeked through.

"You've worked hard, Shell," he addressed quietly, gripping his shoulder weakly, "Take rest for the day."

Normally, Shell would've disagreed and stuck around for the rest of the day.  But exhausted overbore his pride as the boy nodded appreciatively and watched his father leave.

"SHELL!"

His shoulders jumped, hopeful for only moments as he turned and expected to see a pair of dorky glasses and brown, iridescent eyes meet his.  But another body collided with him as he toppled to the ground, spitting out the long strands of hair from his lips.  The smell of cold iron and lavender hit him instantly as he recognized his friend immediately.  Shell immediately held back his disappointment as he leaned up on his shoulders.

"Reign," Shell greeted, lips twitching hesitantly into a smile, "It's wonderful to see you, my friend.  What're you doing here?"

Reign laughed, leaning his forehead against his friends, "Don't sound so formal with me!  I came because business calls, but I had to see you before the meeting!"

Shell smiled for a moment, dropping any other thought as he rubbed Reign's head warmly.  It was nice to see a friendly face around here.  Strong arms wrapped around Shell's waist and he squeaked in surprise after such a long time of solitude.  The thought of Eric throttled his brain as the vampire glanced up to see a pair of narrowed eyes watching him from across the lobby.  Shell gulped, pulling his friend up with him, never breaking the eye contact.  Suddenly, an idea crossed his mind that pulled his lip into a smirk as he narrowed his emerald eyes.

"Oh dear friend," Shell began, cupping Reign's face passionately, "I apologize for not seeing you earlier.  This place gets so....lonely...without you.  It's a shame that you have a meeting at a time like this..." Shell glanced past Reign to see Eric's jaw set, foot tapping at an endless and incoherent thrumming, "...we really do need more time...alone."

Focusing back on his friend, Shell stepped back as Reign's face was flooded with red.  Covering his face nervously, he cleared his throat and replied in a whisper.

"I-I'll keep that in mind for my next visit.  I should get going for the meeting!"

Turning quickly, Reign rushed to the doors, peeking back at Shell and laughing like a nervous school girl.  Shell shook his head in humor, glancing up to meet an exhilarating glare from Eric across the room.  Straightening his back, he approached the line of men with an unreadable face.

"One, may I speak to you for a moment?" he asked, making his way towards the set of doors he came from.

"Of course, Overlord," Eric replied in a husky voice, picking up his pace as he shut the door behind them.

Author's note: AHHH, sorry I haven't had much time to write, senior year has been a lot.   But I can say that I've been doing 100x better mentally since coming out as trans and I'm super excited for everything happening this year.
