What Music Means To Me

Music. When I hear that word the first thing that comes to my mind is escape, because thats exactly what it is. It’s an escape. It helps me block out reality for just a little bit. It makes me happy when I’m sad or angry. It helps me calm down when I’m overly happy. It’s an equalizer. It’s a drug. Like addicts can’t live without their drug, I can’t live without music. Music is my drug. It’s a little piece of heaven just for me. It allows me to perceive it how I want to perceive it. It doesn’t judge or criticize me. It keeps all my secrets. It’s my best friend. It’s the beauty in everyday life. Sound is music in itself. Sound envelopes everyone with a bear hug and cherishes everyone that comes into it’s life. And it mourns those who leave. Life without music would be like summer without day; cold and dark. Music is joy or sadness, anger or love. Music is all of those things and so much more. Music can’t be expressed to its full intent with words. Music just is. I can’t picture my life without music. If it wasn’t in my life, so many bad things could have happened. It calms people down when their emotions are at it’s peak or they’ve had just about as much as they can take. People who can’t connect with anybody can almost always connect with music. Music is always there. It’s the birds chirping or the wind in the trees. It’s the grass swaying or the water rushing. It’s peace and serenity, chaos and destruction. It fixes the broken, gives strength to the weak, brings down the powerful, and shows the suicidal that there is always more to life. It helps those who can’t say what they want. It gives voice to the silent. It lets you be heard.

That is what music means to me.
